Card Captor Sakura, or CCS for short, is the best Mahou Shoujo in existence. Yes, it is even better than Revolutionary Girl Utena. CCS was created by the manga circle CLAMP. It is the story of Kinomoto Sakura, a 4th grader who discovers a book of magical cards and their keeper, a winged animal named Keroberos. CCS is insanely cute and appeals to both children and adults. While it may look sugary sweet (and boy does it, the animation is absolutely top-notch) at its core it is a dark and mature story. The 70-episode series is extraordinarily popular in both Japan and the United States. An abortion known as CardCaptors was produced in the US for WB. This series was censored and rewritten to shit much like the Streamline re-write of Macross that is known as Robotech.

Of course, with popularity comes crazed doujins. Fat, lazy, drooling fanboys draw pictures of Sakura taking it up the ass from Li while eating out a crooning Tomoyo. There are many furry, bestiality scenes as well. The sheer quantity of CCS porn doujins is astounding.

Sakura doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. She is a good girl who loves her family, is loyal to her friends and tries her hardest despite her faults. She is a likable heroine who should be the object of admiration, not lust. Also she is 10 years old. Stop being a sick fuck and jacking off to 2D ten-year old girls you lecherous cunt.

Ehem. In conclusion, Sakura is awesome and following members of the Anti-Sakura Rape/Harm/Exploitation brigade agree on this:

Archo, Chikushou, DDP, Forum Newbie, Hannibal, JDigital, Man of Wax, Mr VacBob, Roobar, SDS, SoSD.

The RH Anti-Sakura Rape/Harm/Exploitation brigade is an official group member of the Against Sakura Seduction, Mutilation and Obscene, Non-consentual, Kinky, Incestuous, Exploitative Sex (ASSMONKIES) International Coalition.

I stopped reading after that line.

I loved Sakura's cute expressions. Uh-wahhhhhh.

And the second movie was soooo touching and the best ever close to an anime series.

The second movie sucked.

The real charm of Card Captor Sakura was that while there was some excitement, there was never any real danger. This gave it a naivistic child's-fantasy feel that was very enjoyable.

But the second movie did have real danger, and that shattered the fantasy world the series had built up. Now, it could have done this and pulled off some clever metaphors and morals out of it, but it didn't. CLAMP are really better writers than to make such elementary mistakes, and I really don't know what was up with that second movie.

I'm pleased that we're finally getting a box set release. I had picked up the first few volumes used on ebay, but the series length was rather daunting.

I don't really like CCS. The child's-fantasy vibe was charming, but I felt there were too many adult elements that felt out of place, namely most of the romances, especially the pedo ones.

9 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-27 12:55 ID:PYToD43b

The romances added spice to a story that wouldn't otherwise quite have managed to carry itself, especially for being so untraditional and amusingly dysfunctional.

The only one that could be labelled "pedo" was Sakura's friend and her teacher, and that was a minor enough element of the story to be easily ignored if it bothered you.

10 Name: Kankneet 2005-09-27 14:07 ID:lJF3qbW9

There was also Touya and that substitute teacher, though Touya was a bit older than, uh, Rika?

While glorifying pedophilia in a manga aimed at kids did wake my inner moralist (that is the case, correct?), I think the concept of 10-year-olds actively pursuing romantic relationships was what ruined it for me. I much prefer the way this is handled in Miyazaki's films.

11 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-27 14:34 ID:PYToD43b

I think I forgot that one, but hey, nobody ever complained about younger boys and older women, especially not the boys!

Seriously, though, I think the main problem of your statement there is the "aimed at kids" part. Kids aren't stupid, and they can make their own judgements and have their own values. I'm sure CCS got a lot of fans (I mean the young fans, not the otaku fans) just for having some respect for its readers and neither shielding them nor treating them like idiots.

12 Name: Kankneet 2005-09-27 15:42 ID:lJF3qbW9

I definitely agree that children's programming should not talk down to their target audience. I even think CCS did a good job on it. Shielding is indeed bad. A children's show dealing with pedophilia would not be bad at all. However, I object to the way it was dealt with.

> A children's show dealing with pedophilia would not be bad at all.

Are you retarded? Do you have any children of your own? 10 year olds have almost no idea what sex and romance is, they giggle or cover their eyes every time they see someone kissing on tv.

This is why I think otaku are so retarded, they are living in la la land.

I think he meant as in "what not to do when someone approaches you and asks to be your boyfriend".

Don't read too much into things.

So... manga > anime?

19 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-03 18:33 ID:sUJnrjgJ

I'd say anime > manga just because the anime had a more touching ending. Though the manga had merits because you have sequence where you see Shaoran and Sakura in their teens.

>>20 is DQN.

Anyhoo, I loved CCS. So sweet and pure, with a hint of perversion.

23 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-06 00:00 ID:QVzYN9lD

A hint of perversion? Card Captor Sakura reaks of it!

  • Tomoyo's "hobby" is filming and taking pictures of Sakura.
  • Shaoran is attrated to Yuki (who is male and MUCH older than him)
  • Touya and Yuki have relationship that more than mere friends.
  • Rika (Sakura's elementrary school classmate) IS DATING HER TEACHER.

The rest of it was just an excuse to get Sakura in a variety of (usually skimpy) costumes.

Also, wasn't Eriol involved with Kaho?I don't have the manga w/ me at the moment but I am almost sure they show them together on volume 12.

25 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-10 01:59 ID:9Gjhj/yW

>>24

It's definately implied.

26 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-10 02:43 ID:09HS2Gm/

All this is, of course, invisible to the child audience.

27 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-10 07:04 ID:2CtjUDzo

Its true that some of it will go over children's heads, but kids are smarter than you think. Its pretty obvious what it means when Shoran blushes the same way around Yuki as Sakura does.

28 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-10 07:14 ID:Heaven

So this show is laying pedo eggs in the subconscious minds of innocent child viewers?

29 Name: !WAHa.06x36 2005-10-10 13:06 ID:b5xEa+nf

Maybe it's laying eggs for TEH GAY.

I agree, kids these days are know all there is to know about sex. It's not that uncommon to hear five year olds talking about oral sex like it was nothing special...I have overheard some kindergarteners talking about "birds and bees" before and they didn't seem one bit fazed.
Sakura misunderstood her feelings for Yukito and Shaoran was attracted to him because of Yue's powers,so I sort of think that's not as deviant as some people make it sound.
