From the front page:

You have three weeks.
Posted on Monday 10th of April 2006
On Tuesday the 11th I will be sitting down with a few people and organising some sort of temporary hosting arrangements because I have had to cancel my credit card. Now this is not a call for donations, because just throwing money at me is not going to solve the problem. The problem is that quite a few people obviously, use 4-ch, post, read, and want the site to be around. Nobody wants to actually do anything about trying to keep it around. Out of the 4 elected moderators, 1 replied within a fortnight. I do excuse Shii, since he was away. One of my other moderators is MIA and for some reason can't email me, and another person is too busy hacking this site than actually doing something productive like he said he would months ago, meanwhile the regular lot will just quote out this front page and put it in a dqn thread with my name on it.

In three weeks the current hosting arrangements for this site end. If you do something, be it start discussion, offer help, create possible solutions to our current issues it will show that this community actually does care. If you don't actually do something other than talk about it, then obviously you don't care.

You have three weeks.

(In general instead of requests since that board isn't quite as trafficed, I think.)

Sure, I want to help, but the only way I can do that is with money. :(

I'm too busy hacking the site.

And personally, I don't even get the message on the front page.

As far as I see it, all of the discussion, offers of help, and suggestions for possible solutions happened months ago.

The only thing left, that hasn't really happened, is some sort of decision or compromise based on that. Let me reiterate the suggestion that I made months ago, and IMO, seems to make sense:

Hostingwise, let's let BlackMage handle it. He said he would try to do a good job with it, and so far I've seen no reason to doubt him.

Just in case, we should also start a "4-ch" fund, where, say, 4 people donate $20 each month. That way, in case Blackmage does actually go MENTALLY INSANE, there would be a backup plan. Sort of like the US Government's system of checks and balances.

Since English is not my primary language I'm hard to understand what he's appealing to us.
So what actually does he want us to do except donations?

I wish to help, but how?

find some place that will host 4-ch for free

How much bandwidth does 4-ch.net require anyways?

I do have reason to doubt him. He can't even get nub.iichan.net to work properly. That server has had broken behavior for a year now.

Fortunately, there are other people who have offered to take on 4-ch who actually have their shit together. The question is whether Squeeks will let them.

Err... what I meant to say is, who are these other people? You can't ask the public to make a decision while only giving them pertial information.

I think you're under some kind of illusion: we here are not making any decision. The two people who will ultimately decide are Squeeks and the new site host, whoever that may be.

I'm just pointing out that I do not believe BM is a good choice. His heart is in the right place, but I think IIchan is already more than enough for him to handle. There are other people I'd rather see hosting 4-ch.

'kay, thanks.

What can I do? Besides talking about it and throwing money squeeks's way.

Do we offer squeeks some free hosting?
Go ask moot#faggot for halp?

22 Name: Anonymous : 2006-04-10 07:26 ID:XAS7iw/8

I'd do it, but I don't think Squeeks likes me ;_;

Besides, the real question isn't bandwidth (it's all text, not anywhere near as bad as imageboards) but CPU strain. What sort of CPU Usage does 4-ch have?

I am against letting moot administrate 4-ch...just imagine the hordes of /b/tards who will destroy our fine /dqn/ with PENIS PENIS PENIS etc.

By the way...how much does the hosting of 4-ch cost?

Seems to be about $80 a month.

I know advertising wouldn't pay much seeing as this site isn't too popular yet.. but have you seen the amount of advertising on 2ch? I can see why many people wouldn't want porn ads coming up every time you click a link, but I don't think a few banner ads would hurt.
