ITT we discuss stupid memes.

Where does the "HOW DO I SHOT WEB" meme come from? And what is it supposed to mean?

Must be from some idiot who posted on some forum.

Are these really memes? Memes are supposed to evolve, aren't they?

All memes can be tracked to SomethingAwful because SomethingAwful invented everything on the internet amen.

Even in evolution, stupid memes don't get far beyond what they were originally. You can change the wording and change the context, but the joke's the same and it gets old.

Memes that transform parts of a language, overstated marketing verbage, and implicit codes of behaviour are more interesting.

The catchphrase didn't come from a poorly translated comic, but rather from when a bunch of goons from the games forum played on ArsClans "Natural Selection" server (natural selection is a mod for halflife). In the mod one of the aliens attacks is to shoot web strings like spiderman. Someone posted a screenshot in a thread bitching about all the clueless players on the server, and the screenshot contained some person saying "how do I shot web".

Phrase moved over into FYAD most probably due to the people playing said game were fyad posters as well. Later someone photoshopped the picture of spiderman with the phrase and people believe thats what originated it.

Wrong again. It was created in FYAD. Most of the time goons are complete dorks in online games and like to constantly repeat catchphrases from the forums.

Is "ZOOMJ" spreading beyond 4chan yet?

I use it and saw it used at non-4chan places, so I guessed it has.

Results 1 - 10 of about 426 for zoomj. (0.33 seconds)

Lol, this thread is the first hit on Google for "zoomj".

What's even funnier is that 4chan doesn't show up on the first few pages of Google results. Probably since threads decay on /b/ so quickly. However a bunch of wakachan boards show up, because they're never updated.

No, threads don't get searched by Google due to moot setting up the robots.txt accordingly:

I think they've banned user-agent "googlebot" as well.
