"United Kingdom - Drug-addicted prisoners who were forced to go "cold turkey" while in jail are suing the Home Office, reports BBC.

The Opiate Dependant Prison Litigation will be on trial in November and will center on alleged inadequacies in the medical treatment of prisoners.

The claim will cover the trespass of articles in the Human Rights Convention, which ban discrimination, torture or inhuman/degrading treatment or punishment."

Yeah, I'm curious. Isn't the UK justice system allowed to dismiss such type of case as a frivolous lawsuit like in the US?

>>2 the way i see it, they want support for their habits. They want to be weened off the habit, rather than go straight off. I don't see how this can happen unless they are allowed to use their stuff.

Quitting cold turkey can be quite dangerous. They'd be quite within their rights to expect proper medical care in such situations. Even when it isn't mortally dangerous, it can still be immensely painful.

And >>2 and >>4, just because "you don't see how this can happen", doesn't mean the medical community don't have treatments for addiction that are neither quitting cold turkey, nor keeping using the same narcotics. Methadone treatment is one well-known such method.

Prisons have hospitals and medical services. I'm sure that if a prison was aware that a prisoner was a drug user prior to being in the slammer and their health was at risk, they would do whatever was in their powers to do so. This might be monitoring prisoner's health, maybe even prison ward isolation, but I for one do not support weening or shit like methodone inside a prison.

I would like to also mention that methodone really doesn't fucking work. Junkies get their daily hit of methodone, on the taxpayer's dollar in this country, only for the large majority of them to either go back to smack, or even have their morning methodone hit, followed by a hit of smack later on. Two hits they get for the price of one, the tax payer coughing up for the other.

It's a sad sad world where medical-grade morphine would cost like one thousandth of the price to society in damage & stolen crap & so forth a junkie does to get his horse for what it costs on the street, and yet they claim that upkeep treatment is bad bad horrible don't you know there's DEMONS in the junk???
