This is IMPORTANT and you should memorize it before you make a trip to Japan or talk to Japanese people online. Japanese people are not like normal people! Japanese people consider rules and hierarchy the most important part of civilization, so never question their rules or formalities.

When you talk to Japanese you should always be very polite. Politeness is the trademark of Japanese society. Don't use the numbers "4" or "9" in your posts because they mean death and suffering in Japan. Never bring up the subject of money because it is considered "dirty" in Japan. Most of Japan's wealth is owned by their yakuza masters.

The Japanese are still bitter about World War II, so take that into account before admitting that you are American. Some Japanese people still hate America and would go back to war if they got the chance! The nation of Japan is very warlike and aggressive, because of their samurai culture. Remember, Japanese people hold their emperor in the highest respect and if they heard someone slander him they would take revenge violently if necessary.

Japan is not a Christian nation, so don't refer to a single "God". They believe in primitive ancestor spirits called "kami". These beliefs are very serious to Japan so you shouldn't make fun of the "kami". If you do this on a trip to Japan you may be forced to commit suicide!

Everything in Japan should be considered as falling under the concepts of "uchi" and "soto"-- what's "mine" and "yours". This is the most important staple of Japanese philosophy and it reflects in all the actions that people take in everyday life.

Please, don't go to Japan and expect people there to act like regular people. You'll just make all Americans look bad.
