Maid in Akihabara (77)

No subs (yet), but I was able to get the gist of it from the acting and the fairly simple story so far. A girl in need of work gets a tip from someone and gets hired as a waitress in an Akiba maid cafe as well as an introduction to otaku culture. She works with a girl who seems to be her friend and an older experienced woman. It had some funny moments with the otaku and when she tries to serve her first table. She seems to win over the crowd, causing the older maid to see her as a rival. The cheesy anime-like effects were a cute touch, especially the angry eye sparks.

Is there any chatter about a group subbing it? This looks incredibly hilarious.

Not yet.

And when you mean "hilarious", you mean "moeee~"...

5 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-03 18:53 ID:Heaven

I might be able to get a group to do it, but...

how do I download?

(Streaming WMV crashes my browser, so I can't watch it streamed, let alone download it)

6 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-03 19:53 ID:yn59VHmI

Here's a link to the 1Mb stream.
http://akiba.netcinema.tv/asx/01_hig.asx
There are many programs out there designed to capture streaming asx/wmv video into files, but I'm afraid I'm not familiar with which are better or worse.

Which browser and video player are you using?

7 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-04 14:21 ID:jX6JaUoB

If you're not afraid of command lines, mplayer does a decent job even if it is completely evil.

mplayer -dumpstream -playlist http://akiba.netcinema.tv/asx/01_hig.asx

That would probably put the stream in a file named stream.dump, which you can then rename and watch. There's some option to change the default filename but I've never been able to remember it.

8 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-04 18:37 ID:Vcnfr68i

mplayer.exe -dumpstream -dumpfile somerandomfilename.asx http://akiba.netcinema.tv/asx/01_hig.asx

i think

Were you successful?

10 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-07 13:33 ID:Heaven

No, that will only grab the .asx file, which is just a playlist.

mplayer.exe -dumpstream -dumpfile file.wmv -playlist http://akiba.netcinema.tv/asx/01_hig.asx

Episode 2 is up!

12 Name: Couch Potato 2005-12-08 03:57 ID:yn59VHmI

Our maid(SO MOEEEEEE!) tries to one-up the leader maid, but scares the crap out of the customers. Leader maid schools her in the care and maintenance of a goshoujin-sama. Nosebleed guy = lol. I wish I could understand leather guy's inspiring speech.

Next time: #1 maid contest?

22 Name: Antipika 2006-02-14 17:59 ID:Heaven

Hi,

Anyone can put the direct link to each WMV file ? Or download them all, rar/zip them and upload them to another location ?

Streaming is a pain, especially with ASX :o

Thanks in advance.

23 Name: Couch Potato 2006-02-14 18:09 ID:yn59VHmI

There are no WMVs, it's all streamed. You'll have to do the stream capturing trickery mentioned above or hope someone else takes the trouble to do so.

24 Name: Antipika 2006-02-14 18:22 ID:Heaven

Hi,

Can't manage to capture the stream :o Anyone have done it and can upload me the files ?

25 Name: Antipika 2006-02-14 18:28 ID:Heaven

Ok, i found a software for capture the stream :)

I'll re-upload the in a 'all-one-package' after that :)

31 Name: Couch Potato 2006-02-19 02:55 ID:O4jdbD1V

When I saved the stream of the first episode [ttp://akiba.netcinema.tv/asx/01_hig.asx] it was only like 2 minutes long? Isn't it supposed to be longer? Did they take the whole episode down?

32 Name: Antipika 2006-02-19 10:12 ID:Heaven

Hi,

They'r 3 WMV files for each ASX file :)

1 : Introduction/Prologue (011hig.wmv, 021hig.wmw, 031high.wmv...)
2 : Whole Episode (012hig.wmv, 022hig.wmv, 032high.wmv...)
3 : Credits/Mini making off (013hig.wmv, 023hig.wmv, 033hig.wmv...)

Try to select them with the last "menu" on SDP, it's called URLs.

Antipika.

33 Name: dcpoor 2006-02-23 09:42 ID:VFifqFLT

crap, did they take down the streams on 2/15?
i never got around to watching the last part. :(

34 Name: dcpoor 2006-02-23 09:45 ID:VFifqFLT

hm, still there. just no links on the page anymore. whew.

35 Name: Couch Potato 2006-02-23 13:40 ID:Heaven

Crud, someone better capture the streams before the webmaster gets wise and really does remove them.

36 Name: Antipika 2006-02-23 17:41 ID:Heaven

Hi got all of them, but i don't have fast upload (1Mbit).

Total size for all files is 561 MB. I'll maybe make a bittorent link but on a private tracker only to avoid leechers :o Don't want to upload this to one or two guys who'll never share it.

This is so ridiculously bad. Saki sounds like she has been huffing helium, the sets are horrible, it looks like it was filmed by students with a camcorder, the special effects are...special

59 Name: Couch Potato : 2006-03-15 06:47 ID:Heaven

In the scene where she's talking on her cell phone, is the homeless guy calling her at the end?

Yes. Saki's pretty much homeless herself, as you'll see in episode 2.

CALLING ALL OTAKU

There's a line in Maid in Akihabara episode 2 that none of us can figure out, including mogura, the native Japanese on the team. Himeko is watching Saki and Miyabi fighting, complete with angry eye sparks, and she says something like, Whoa! This is just like "PIISU to ANATEKA!"

Listen to the line at http://www.ekvin.com/whatsthis.wav (thanks to cosmo_gunny for hosting).

They're probably two names, so it's likely a reference that none of us recognize. If you think you have a clue, let us know!

Who will be Number One Maid? Saki gains an important fan in a faraway land, but has to think fast when her past catches up with her.
