Tired of the Moe crap (54)

Who else is tired of moe anime? I'm pretty much tired of all these harem/loli/moe pedo bullshit anime that have been comming out this year.

Only this year? Moe ruined anime over at least most of this decade

3 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-11-13 15:35 ID:I9QAxI9i

You could just, you know, not watch them.

Did you catch Phantom and Sengoku Basara back in the spring? Those were pretty non-moe.

I finally got tired of moe anime because non-moe shows are getting shittier, as people would rather be making moe shows which will actually make them some money. Also because the last couple of seasons I kept forgetting which characters belonged to which show.

I'm also tired. I'm been downloading old anime, circa '80s.

I'm going to wath the wind of amnesia tonight. And this week I watched the original Record of Lodoss's war Ovas. Pretty good.

Ive never been into moe to get tired of it, but i am tired of seeing it everywhere, and it's popularity. I don't think I've ever seen a more powerful fad.

Moe seems to be a phenomena which is emblematic of the overall decline of anime in general. Thematically, the 70s and 80s had shows which ranged from the humor of Urusei Yatsura to the grand lyricism of Leiji Matsumoto and his works such as Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock. Moe, with it's soulless objectification and pandering to the tastes of anti-social otaku, shows just how far much of anime has fallen since the halcyon Showa period.

Technically, much current anime is sorely lacking in terms of animation quality. Fixation with character design has come at the price of shows which hardly move, with static pans across unmoving scenes commonplace. Just take a look at even the lowest budget tv series from the 70s-90s to see what real animation looks like. Indeed, the art of animated backgrounds seems to have been completely lost and replaced by computer graphics, if at all.

So screw Moe and all it stands for, I'll take shows like Urusei Yatsura, Harlock, GE999, Touch, Maison Ikkoku, and loads more over such shit any day.

Agreed. Moe, while it was interesting at first, is becoming quite tiresome.

Moe has been pretty awful, but that doesn't mean there haven't been any quality shows in the last decade. Kaiji and Mononoke both came out after 2005, right in the midst of the pedo craze.

None of you have any idea of what moe really is and just use the word to describe anime which are related only insofar as your perception of them. kthnxbai.

Oh, I know very well just what constitutes moe. Moe is nothing less than a bunch of shitty fanservice catering to perverted hikki shutins. Shit like moe makes the classic era (70s-90s) of anime look better all of the time.

37 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-10-03 17:32 ID:Va15V/lC

I don't mind moe characters. What I do mind is Anime based soley around that theme and its zealot following. There are people out there who will bash anything that isn't moe

38 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-10-03 22:25 ID:aCAi9dWB

>>36 While I agree with you, I can't bring myself to consider the past any better. Animation quality has never been the top priority with most anime, but by god the old stuff is really poor.

39 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-10-04 23:24 ID:bUB8YQ71

>>38
You would be surprised at the animation quality of alot of older shows. The art of background animation, for example, has been largely lost with the advent of cgi backgrounds. The older shows have often fluid animation which blows away the sort of static pans of highly detailed characters which dominates now. For example, I have been watching the 80s show Zillion and the animation is very smooth.

Seconded.
I love the opening of Macross DYRL.
It's fantastically beautiful and awe-inspiring due to the fact that it's all and painted. Anime became art in the late 70s - the late 80s. The 90s added the pastel stuff and kinda killed the aartfulness.

Yeah I hate the harem, loli moe and wish fulfillment bullshit that anime has become nowadays. I'm going to go back to watching true classics like Tenchi Muyo, Card Captor Sakura and the Ah! Megami-sama OVAs.

This.

47 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-11-27 15:45 ID:8aLAq0ca

Comparing the animation quality of high budget OVAs and movies to TV shows is comparing apples to oranges. Of course DYRL will look better than whatever is airing now on TV. It also cost 10 times as much to make.

But as a whole animation quality has gone up quite noticeably.

I'm tired of people who "are tired of the moe-crap". Just until recently no one cared, but now it's suddenly hip to bash on everything and claim that everything was better in the good old days. Sure, I might not be all that happy with the way things are now, but I wasn't happy back then either. They still made crappy series years ago.

There has been a mainstream animation style since the dawn of animation, and they all evolve over the years. The moe-ish look all characters have now ain't forever.

Most of the people suddenly hating the moe trend still watch it. It's not like you have to. If you really, really disliked it you wouldn't watch it... you'd only watch it if you got some kind of amusement out of it, right?

I don't watch a bad movie, even less so a bad television series. if the first few episodes are crappy, I'll give up one it. So how come so much of these people "hating the moeblobs" are watching? Because they don't really mind... it's just "hip to don't like moeblobs" because there's tons of influential bloggers, writers, friends and whatnot on the net that all agree on this.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Ten episodes in, and I can tell that this is one epic-as-fuck series with "epic" used in the pre-internet cliche sense.
