You'd probably be better off spending the time learning MPI. It's not hard.
Or better yet! MPI and FORTRAN! For like 55% more shattering of the brain!
i think a machine languages is need to learn by you!!
COBOL.. hmmm... learn that is wasting a time.. but worth it!! BTW why not learn PERL or something like C++?

Most of the people that use fortran are scientists. If you plan on working with scientists on a supercomputer project, it might be worth learning.
im studying mechanical engineering and we use fortran extensively.
Especially in dynamic simulations.
why use fortran when it's so much slower than quickbasic?

gfortran does generate unbelievably slow code, though.
if you're doing supercomputing then there's no reason you shouldn't have enough money to buy a good compiler
