2ch, not oddly, has gotten many different board-browsers coded for it, to optimize the surfing experience. Does something similar exist for 4-ch and/or similar western boards?
If not, how much work would it be to code something like that? I'm quite a newb when it comes to programming, Java would be the lazy and quick choice, VB/VB.NET is a definite no-no (I have coded in VB5-6 & .NET, and I do not wish to go there again unless my school grades depend on it). C++ I've dabbled in a bit as well, though that was ages ago. Is there some other language that's better suited for this task? I would not be able to code a browser myself due to lack of enough free time (I'd have to up my knowledge as well as spend time coding on this instead of homework), but I would love to start or help out with something like this..
It would be neat to see such a thing exist if it doesn't already.
If I was to create something like this, I would not write a whole browser, I'd just write a firefox extension. I believe that would be a lot easier than writing something like this from scratch.
Is it possible to modify Kareha to work with existing 2ch browsers? I don't know much about them.
What do the 2ch board-browsers do? 4chan has a FireFox extension, but it only helps with Imageboards and not textboards.

Whilst I have considered the idea, it's rather difficult, since 2ch stores threads and board data in it's own, rather poorly documentated format that would be a lot of work. In all honesty, if I was going to make something that allowed 3rd party apps to be built to read and write to threads, as much as I hate XML it would be a viable choice. Given that currently thread data is nothing but flatfile XHTML, it shouldn't be too difficult for someone to create an app to view it.
So, has anyone here actually used those 2ch browser thingies? What can they do that makes them superior to browsing 2ch directly, and what can they do that you can't do with 4-ch's RSS feeds and your favourite RSS reader?

2ch browsers don't display ads, some can let you monitor threads, download threads completely, and other various coolness. 4-ch's RSS feeds only show the latest 15 or so posts to a board, no the complete list.
>>8
adblock plus to get rid of ads. page update checker to monitor threads. file -> save page as to save a copy of a thread.

abacus to do math. smartphone to browse internet. wii to play games. hey, i don't need a computer anymore!
there's something to be said for a conveniently integrated experience

The extensions do all come together once installed, though. Can't really say the same for separate physical devices.
