I've been a programmer for 16 years.
I've programmed in many assemblers, C LISP dialects Haskell perl/php/ruby/erlang/sml/anything.

Every fucking language
i know all of it.
i'm tired of it, all of it.
i'm simply going to ask: why program?
Aren't you tired of the makefiles? of the preprocessor checks? of the abstract bullshit hidden in high level languages? of the bugs? of the bad implementations? of the wheel reinvention? of your time gettin wasted? why the fuck do you program?

Because it's still fun to me.

It pays my bills.

I also see no end of interesting things to do. I'm still at the "mastering some languages and useful idioms" level, but if I ever surmount that, there's plenty of topics to focus on. Some of these topics neither I nor anyone else have a hope of ever "solving", but they're interesting anyway. Programming is a means to that.

However, there are certain pieces of busy-work ("excise" if you will) I don't like dealing with. I'm interested in solving problems, not fighting my tools. Some languages are mostly excise!

I program because my ambitions haven't been satisfied yet.

I've been programming for a shorter period of time than you -- roughly eight years now -- and maybe this is the reason why I still find programming fun.

I also have some really interesting projects I'm working on, written in a variety of languages, and this keeps my interest always on.

You know, I just have so many ideas I can't find enough time to implement them all. Spending my time on 4-ch doesn't help ;)

I enjoy challenges. I also enjoy making strings of screen blink like the KITT's scanner. Or whatever it's called.

It is indeed easy money; However prepare yourself for you'll mostly code shitty web applications in PHP, nothing transcendental, nothing interesting.

I only code to achieve things for myself which can make my life easier through automation ^^

I been programming for around 8 years now; currently working for the big company which everyone hate. I program because the job pays well -_-;
At first it was the challenge, as you do it for a long time you are getting further from the problems and in bigger project most of the time the problems are not solved by you...
So shit, I have nothing better to do and it pays.. so heck..
