Hello, I'd like to write a GUI in C for a firewall, where do I start? I have no experience whatsoever.

What OS! This is important, windows has the win32 API, and mac has cocoa! If you are trying to be cross-platform there are many API's such as gtk+, OpenMotif, wxNet, etc! If you don't know this already maybe this is a little to advanced for you!

isn't it great how every idiot who manages to figure out how to crack that tripcode turns into a "clever troll"?

Why not use an embedded web server instead. Then you can manage your firewall remotely and from any OS.
