so, I'm living in Hiroshima, Japan. Been here over a month now and overall it's been pretty good. This country can be one seriously expensive fucker but there's barely a fat person to be found and the girls really are as good as the hype.
If you are curious you can read my occasional updates over on http://hiroshima-mon-amour-fou.blogspot.com but since I'm still without laptop and internet at home they're few and far between.
Major annoyances with this country so far: so many people smoke, and they do so everywhere. YOU CANNOT GET GOOD COFFEE, and even the shit stuff is $5. Fucking Asia... it's sad sad days when Starbucks make the best coffee in town.
Biggest suprise so far: anime really isn't that popular. I haven't met a SINGLE student at work that has even HEARD of Akira or Ghost in the Shell let alone is an anime fan.
Best thing so far: the girls... duh, haha. Were you expecting something else? This country really does flip the dating game on its head. There's a massive US marine base near Hiroshima and a few marines can be found in most clubs on the weekends but whereas in Melbourne they'd be covered in girls here they get NOTHING. I've seen some of the most dorky, idiotic foreigners get sssssstunning girls here.
that's "konnichi wa" if you use romanji

NOT
こっにちは
it's the call of the gajin, yes?
lol law school.
Majiresu time!
Akira and Ghost in the Shell are total hardcore otaku titles. Don't expect what's well known in the west to be well known in Japan. You'd probably have far better luck with something like Lupin III. Or some massively popular kid's series like Doraemon Crayon Shin-chan.
Also Miyazaki. Everybody everywhere loves Miyazaki.
How did >>2 even manage to type "こっにちは"?
you lack the black gaijin flair

is instant coffee that expensive that you would rather buy them already prepared?

Instant coffee is dog water, you dumb-fuck american. I've been to the states and the coffee there sucks ass too! You have to go to an I-talian cafe for good coffee.
>>1 just buy your own green beans, stove-roast them, grind them, get a mesh strainer and make your own ITS SO EASY
I remember my first 6 months in Japan - fucking roller coaster. Some days were great, others I'd rather forget. I still haven't travelled much in Japan. Definitely want to go west though through Chugoku and Kyuushu. My Blog (hate this word but you use want you have) http://theosakan.blogspot.com by the way.
About the girls - despite what people think Japanese girls can be pretty savvy about who they choose as a boyfriend. Most of them know that American soldiers are meatheads and just in it for the sex.
What does konichiwa mean?

It is ちわ to こ.
