City official pokes policeman in drunken rage (9)

SAITAMA -- A senior official at a Tokyo ward office has been arrested for poking a police officer during a drunken argument at his apartment, police said.

Masataka Chiba, 36, who works for the Toshima Ward Office's civil engineering division, stands accused of obstructing public officials' duties.

Chiba had a quarrel with the caretaker of his apartment in Niiza, Saitama Prefecture, at about 9 p.m. on Thursday. An officer arrived shortly after the caretaker alerted police.

Chiba grabbed the officer by the lapel and poked him.

"I was drunk, so I don't remember what happened," Chiba was quoted as saying. (Mainichi)
