Growing hair out (16)

Okay, first off, I'm a guy, but all three genders are welcome to participate in this thread.

I've always had short hair, but I decided to let it grow and see what happened. Four months later, it reaches down to the back of my neck. The horrible phase where it's all over the place and you can't do anything with it (a phase that a long-haired friend warned me about) seems to be pretty much over. It can look kinda wild between shampoos (the only hair care product I'm using, BTW), but sometimes in a good way.

I'm learning that the way hair is disheveled makes a huge impact. Down onto my forehead: hot. Pointing up behind the ears: gay. No, I don't mean bad. I looked in the mirror that day and thought, "Dammit, I really look like I'm gay!" Man, I worked extra hard to fix that one. But that hasn't happened lately. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with this long hair experiment.

So, to the other long-haired people out there, what are your experiences? Use conditioner? Shampoo how often? Do you get your hair professionally trimmed or not cut it at all? Let's talk, Anonymous Stylists!

I'm so lazy with my hair. It's depressing. I just let it grow as long as it gets and poorly cut it myself once or twice a year.

tied them into a ponytail is the only thing i do when i grow my hair until it almost reached my butt, or go to a hair dresser and ask them to make a good long haired style

When you run your fingers along your scalp and it doesn't feel all nice and clean, it's time to shampoo. I'm pretty sure this is about every second day for most people. Use conditioner every time, or every second time to keep it shiny and nie looking, and in good condition.

i'm growing all hair on my body now for 3 months (4?), including facial hair. i kinda look fuzzy, and after a few days of not showering, i look like a mad scientist, i.e. hair sticking out in all directions. i like the effect it has on people. i talk like a normal person, i say things a normal, fairly intelligent person would say, but at the same time i look like a russian rapist of some sort. i love how it confuses people.

after a shower it looks like shit though. i'm hoping that will pass after it has gained a certain length. though if it hasn't grown past my neck by this summer, i'm gonna go for the bold look again. i'm gonna keep the fuzzy caveman-like facial hair, though. fuck shaving.

The fuzzy caveman is NOT good looking. Even if it "looks cool". Many friends of mine went for it, only to find out they're better off shaving.

One thing a beard/stubble really needs to work is for your follicles to be even across your face. For instance, at the moment my cheeks have yet to catch up with the density of stubble as my jawline and neck. So I shave every day because it looks neater. I like having stubble though, so if my cheeks do catch up, I'll probably start to do stubble, but keep it shaped.

Long hair will make you sweat more so be sure to take lots of showers

long hair is rad, i've grown mine out for four years and its longer now than the hair of most girls i know.

my advice: use good shampoo. i've heard that pantine is bad for your hair in the long run...i use Bed Head. i think its made for scene kids who do all kinds of mean things to their hair. i dont do anything to mine and that keeps is wonderful.

also, if youre anything like me, washing it before bed is essential...it just looks all poofy and weird when i dont sleep on it for a night.

kinda bumping up and old thread but i love hair >.>

yea I has long hair too. I have been growing it for about a year, it is just below my collar.

I use shampoo and usually conditioner just to make brushing easier.

my hair is light and floaty though so I barely notice it, and there is not much advice I can give because that is a natural feature of my hair. I shower before bed.

i used to have long hair; didn't really take care of it well though. just shampooed and conditionered (is that a word?) it every few days. many people told me to trim the tips, advice that i should've taken but just didn't, so i had crazy split ends which made my hair all frizzly (yeah, that sounded a bit gay, no homo). definitely trim the tips every few months. your girl friends can probably let you know when its about that time.

everyone loved my hair, my grandmother especially. i shave my head now and whenever i get a fresh shave shes reminds me, 'your hair was so beautiful'. lol. sometimes i fantasize about doing it again. the shitty middle phase is the worst though :/ good thing its over for you. pony tails are good, especially if you can play some latin rock. hehe.

FYI, PONY TAILS ON GUYS SHOULD BE BURNT OFF.
