Food that tastes as good or better eaten cold the next day (48)

I'm sure we all know pizza. Not too long ago I also learned of chow mein. The noodles can really soak up the sauce turning into a suspiciously tasty, slimy mass.

I have just discovered that fried egg on toast left in the fridge overnight isn't too bad at all along with a hot coffee. Rather a nice cliché for breakfast.

curry all week

4 Name: Apprentice Chef 05/01/03(Mon)17:42 ID:Heaven [Del]

Bland-tasting root veggies like potato&radish in stew seem to absorb broth flavor alot when the pot is cooling down. Much better taste on the next day.
I'm pretty sure that the same happens in curry too.

I'd like to add home made quiche to this.

Lasagna is excellent cold the next day

7 Name: Morg!MPEaAQqH7w 05/01/16(Sun)08:16 ID:Nh6FL/LO

Cold leftover Lasagna rocks my socks!

Anything Italian tastes good cold. Truth be told, I eat all my leftovers cold, as I'm lazy and don't have a microwave. =/

11 Name: thebranded 05/01/19(Wed)04:51 ID:Heaven

curry and italian for sure, and both are still good after 5 re heats

12 Name: Apprentice Chef 05/01/29(Sat)05:57 ID:Heaven

Curry destroys tupperware like nothing else, though =(

13 Name: Apprentice Chef 05/01/31(Mon)22:27 ID:w9NrsuW7

Fried chicken.

And, #12, have you tried using laundry bleach to clean the curry stains out of your tupperware? It's safe, it gets rid of most stains, and laundry bleach is non-toxic enough that people put it in the water for washing dishes, to kill bacteria. (you still have to rinse the bleach out of the tupperware when you are done, of course)

Cold buttered linguine... Mmmm.

15 Name: Paula-tan 2005-05-04 05:52 ID:2jIkUL3e

fried rice with shrimp sauce, most likely from take-out.

16 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-05-04 12:04 ID:FzRwmvGo

12... I usually just ignore the curry stain, since it doesn't seem to affect the taste :o

also, left-over turkey + sandwiches = ;D

>>16
Have you ever tried using two slices of leftover turkey for bread and sandwiching leftover stuffing between them? =D

18 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-05-06 22:54 ID:QmgCMhJH

>>17
zOMG that is so tasty. Use a little cranberry source for 'mayo'.

19 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-07-13 14:51 ID:6v/t4P47

Cold Goulash is also pretty tasty, the meat absorbs the spicy sauce and it becomes yum yum.

I agree to left over lasagna and add gratin to the list.

My friend tells me Mac and Cheese is good when you refridgerate after making/mixing it. You eat it after heating it the next day. I've never tried it...But I plan to.

Pancakes. That is, European pancakes. Not those silly American ones.

23 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-07-17 01:36 ID:CLzbTlri

You mean crepes?

24 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-07-19 15:32 ID:4W02mbXz

>>14
Signed.

I don't think he meant crêpes. But pancakes made in Europe tend to be thinner, bigger and a lot less filled with pure fat than American ones. Also, they are usually not eaten for breakfast.

26 Name: Ichigo Pie!5ouPkmz/WI 2005-07-20 16:52 ID:4IH/BHWu

>>23
Hmm... according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crepes they are (although I add vanillasugar and use sunflower oil instead of butter). We call them pancakes over here, though.

27 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-07-20 20:50 ID:CLzbTlri

Heh, we call them pancakes where I come from too. But we use the same word for American-style pancakes, so it can get a little confusing. We usually fill crepes with jam spread thinly or manjar blanco, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manjar_blanco then dust with powdered sugar. =d~~~~

Mashed/boiled potatoes, fried in a pan, do very well the next morning.

32 Name: Sakurina!hb3hogbZLc 2005-08-16 22:07 ID:Heaven

I agree with >>13 . I like to eat fried chicken cold, because it's just so much better. It has a heavenly taste of sorts.

33 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-08-18 03:03 ID:Heaven

>>32
I can't stand cold fried chicken. Then again, I work at KFC.

34 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-08-24 13:43 ID:sbRmIOaN

Cold fried chicken is good if you don't eat the skin. Cold roast/rotisserie chicken skin however is quite good.

I think most stews or soups taste much better if you leave them over night. There's a malaysian dish that's called "Beef Rendang" which is usually cooked for one whole day and left in its gigantic pot/wok thingy overnight for the flavours to seep in. Tastes amazing with plain white rice. Especially jasmine rice. XD

36 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-10-19 14:09 ID:sWELwN8o

Agree on the fried chicken.

One of my favorite leftovers is the fake chinese I get at my local eatery - wonderful the next day, except that the rice tends to dry out.

Pour a little water on the rice before you microwave it, and it won't be as bad.

What are you talking about. Cold pizza tastes like ass.

39 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-12-12 17:30 ID:Heaven

Maybe your cold pizza does. :p Perhaps there's some properties that make certain cold pizzas taste better than others.

40 Name: Apprentice Chef 2005-12-13 18:57 ID:Heaven

>>39

grins I'll clarify a little. I do not like the taste of cold, NYC pizza. It's important to me that the cheese be molten, and in quantity. If it isn't, then I suppose cold pizza is fine, but it's hard to imagine it tasting better than bubbling pizza which will almost certainly burn the roof of your mouth.

Of course, this really is a matter of personal taste, and I was mostly joking with you.

41 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-01-17 02:04 ID:QZWjhfmU

beef rendang is malaysian? I thought it's indonesian.

42 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-01-20 16:16 ID:Heaven

I don't like cold pizza, either. Room temp is acceptable, but it's best hot IMO

Pasta (as long as the sauce was a bit thin warm) and any Chinese food other than rice is good.

43 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-01-25 12:42 ID:01AwRPvM

I love cold pizza. Of course, it's best the first time around, but I find that reheating it makes it stiff and untasty. why go to the extra effort for inferior foodstuffs?

Also, I love chicken the next day. Not fried or anything, just cooked whole, like on Christmas or such. Speaking of holiday meals, I also love cold dressing. Turkey, however, gets kinda gooey due to some chemical in it. Bleh desu.

Sounds like someone's being a picky eater!

45 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-02-13 19:01 ID:Heaven

I hereby condemn each and every piece of cold food! Food is supposed to be hot, so to revere the glory of the root of humanity's liberation through the technology of creating and maintaining FIRE!!

46 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-02-14 02:41 ID:Heaven

>>45
Yeah! Ice cream is awful unless served steaming hot!

47 Name: Apprentice Chef 2006-02-14 08:09 ID:XIZ392aF

Pasta, espically when if it has been sitting out on the countertop all night and has not been refrigerated. Cold sweet and sour pork is good. If you try to heat it up it gets mushy but it is still crunchy if it is cold.

>>47
Now you got me drooling for cold spaghetti with butter, cheese and diced ham. 8O~~~~
