OK, so I just got a rice cooker. I want to use it to make myself some basic Japanese breakfasts. I know that the traditional meal is rice, miso soup with tofu and some seaweed, some vegetables, a piece of fish, and maybe some of those rolled egg things.
My question is, how does one make the fish and rolled egg things appropriately? Anyone have any recipes? Furthermore, unless I hear otherwise, I was just going to use kimchi for my vegetables since I know a brand without MSG, and most Japanese pre-made pickled vegetables have tons of the stuff in 'em.
Hello,I'm Japanese.
I can't understand clearly what you say because I am not good at speaking English.
Do you want to cook Japanese fish dish.
I think he's asking how you make breakfast-type grilled fish.

Did you mean this type of fish?

Yes, I think that's it. Or something like this.

Kinda-sorta. I was thinking more along the lines of a piece of salmon or something like that. The whole fish are a little bit pricey for my $60/week food budget. Whereas a 20-lb sack of rice and a pound of miso runs me about $22, and it might last for months. The fish I get already and won't run too much extra. I buy it for main meals already.
>>6 Do you mean, Shioyaki style fish?
(..if that's the right word)
The first picture, from betterhome.jp, looks like its cooked in a shioyaki style.
I don't know how to make it, personally, but I'm sure that you could make something similiar with only a piece of salmon.
