Holy shit, I just had a piece of baking parchment catch fire inside my oven.
Luckily I was able to contain the fire. Nothing, not even the food, was damaged.
Thankfully I've never caught anything on fire. Well, yet.
Though my mom did have an amusing accident with styrofoam, foil, and a microwave.
Which is why everyone should have a well-maintained fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
I was frying something a few years ago when the oil caught on fire. I was stupid back then so I was like ... hmm fire+water=no more fire!
The resulting flame went all the way up to the ceiling and blackened the cupboards above our sink. Thank god it didn't set anything else on fire though ^^;;
oil+fire+water=bad!!
The exact same thing happened to me, with the exception of the throwing water on it part. It when up to the ceiling itself.
Luckily I had a small extinguisher nearby.

Bleh, can't edit. :(
>>4 hah, me too. Although there was no fire, I did end up burned for over a week. Gotta learn somehow, I guess.
Speaking of burns, I turned on the wrong burner once. I can't remember now whether it was because I lost my balance or I was testing the temperature, but somehow I ended up placing my palm on the burner. I heard a sizzle and whipped my hand off before I realized I was burnt or felt any pain. I had concentric circle marks on my palm for a week.(we have an electric stove)
Once when I was a kid my dad threw a Thanksgiving party and cooked a turkey. He put it in the oven and waited a couple hours, but the turkey wasn't done. So he opened the oven door and a WALL OF FIRE burned his eyebrows off. Apparently, there was a problem with the oven; a gas leak or something.
