Maby I think so because I am Greek but how about you?
I know I like it, I mean I was raised partly by it, have you tried it on?
i like souvlaki, but i didnt eat much of it.
oh a reply! how nice!
well i guess that not many people have tried greek food around here and well souvlaki is good but more considered like fast food which doesn´t really show what greek cousine really is about.
but i got to say souvlaki is one thing you have to try if you are in greece and hope for a good restaraunt/eating-place
any recommendation of what other greek food is good?
Tiropitas are my favorite! I have so much fun making them. Since I love feta cheese so much, Greek food is probably my favorite.
thank you!
and it depends on what kind of food you like:
If you like vegetables then you have a lot of things you can try like lenssoup (fakki), beansoup (fasoulada) which kind of counts like the national food of Greece, Fasoulakia (the big long bean-thing that I don´t know what it´s called and it is green, can also be cooked with meat like a stew or what it is called. Moussaka which is a mix of many vegetables like eggplant, zuchini (i think they call it) and well poatoes and onions and stuff.
yeah all this food is mainly cooked with olive-oil which is really healthy and better than butter when you cook.
This is like a general tip, it is better to use olive oil that comes from plants as in not meat like butter comes from cow (not made of meat but you get it right).
That means that the body won´t absorb all the bad fat because it doesn´t recognise its type like if it is fat from butter - the body recognises the fat in butter and makes it its own....
well this was an awful explenation I hope you understand what i am talking about and if not just ignore the whole thing.
(one big breath later)
If you like meat then try kokinisto which is veil in the owen like a kind of stew that you can eat with rise or potatoes.
Or maby you want to try chicken with lemon-potatoes also cooked in the owen (less fat than if you fry it but the ultimate way of cooking with less fat as well as making all the bacteria go away is to boil the meat but it is not as tasy in my opinion so just stick to the fat.....)
From the sea you can try squid and clams and fish and other stuff manly cooked like a stew or on the grill (the latter with lemon on top)
And in the fast food section comes souvlaki, grilled corn-thing (what is it called) and giro like greek kebab served with pomme-frites, tomato, onion, bread and some sallads that you can choose from.
If you like soups and meat you have to try greek chicken or meatball soup which is made with a blend of egg and lemons (yeah it sounds weird but it tastes good)
That is all I can think of (for now).....
And sorry for two really long posts hope you liked reading it.....
I guess I scared everyone away with my long posts....
looks around
i tried to look at them but they only have souvlaki, bummer... im hungry after reading all that :(
oops sorry, hehe. Me too and around where I live there are a couple of restaraunts but I don´t trust them (I always had the idea that they aren´t as good as in Greece, but that is just me) so I only can wait for summer so I can travel to Greece and eat some greek food (even if my grandmother cooks a lot of greek food, you sometimes need to have things that you can buy on the greek markets and not so often in the stores around here). It is like looking for real ramen, the best one can only surely be found in Japan you know. If you can´t do it yourself that is (which I can´t).....
Today I ate a Greek Salad, apparently. Very...intense flavour.
I guess with feta cheese, olives and oliveoil? Right?
Yep.
good because they sometimes make another kind of sallad and call it greek salland, which is like a "regular" salad.
I love Greek cuisine but I don't eat stuff from animals so I tend to just use techniques with vegetables, like
really glad you like greek food and I really like the ideas you use.
The thing about being a vegetarian is that you need a lot of imagination which you seem to have a lot of.
Very fun and nice!
why not make this thread on top of them all? hehe
Does anyone know where I can have a Pavlova in Tokyo? I want to try it!
!!! sorry, wrong thread..
it´s ok
I'm eating hummus and pita chips right now.
I like gyros when the tzatziki sauce is fresh and flavorful.
I like a roast lamb slice on top of a big plate of orzo with tomato sauce.
I like Greek style "village salad" with black olives and feta cheese.
I like grape leaves stuffed with minced lamb and onions, and seasoned with thyme.
I like "spanakopita," little appetizer spinach and feta cheese pies in flaky phyllo pastry.
I like Greek style lima beans with tomato sauce.
I like fried cod with "skordalia" sauce of garlic and potatoes.
A lot of Greek food is very good indeed. Some of it I do not care for, but in the main it is very good.
And if you are thinking of cooking Greek style dishes, remember this above all else: do not try to make it so refined. Do not try to be so fancy. The traditional Greek dishes are simple hearty food, and some dishes have not changed much in thousands of years.
Achilles and Patroclus drank red Cretan wine and ate fried fish with garlic sauce while camped outside the gates of Troy. What else could you ask for in a meal?
hehe nice one!
I like greek food aswell!
