Frozen Pizzas (24)

Hey guys.

Just out of curiosity...what's the best brand out there?

At present, I typically get Digiornos or Digiornos deluxe, though I've been tempted to try Freschetta before too.

Also, am I the only one here who adds toppings? I typically dice a lot of green and red bell pepper to add to the mix, as well as a liberal amount of actual pepper sprinkled all over. I've tried putting ham on as well, and that wasn't too bad either.

I like http://www.flyingpizzas.com/

A store near me sells 'em for about $12. I put my own toppings on.

Also, the ones at Trader Joe's are pretty good.

Used to cook my own pizzas but no longer have the time/incentive/pizza oven.

WTH, $12? A real pizza from a shop would cost less.

It's really, really big. You get 8 large slices, and they taste better than Dominos/Pizza Hut crap.

I'm not even talking Dominos and Pizza Hut. We have a local gourmet pizza shop which is $10 (Australian mind you, so less than US$10) for a large pizza. And I don't mean Pizza Hut large, I mean the large before Pizza Hut shrank their large all those years ago. The box doesn't fit in the fridge.

When it's frozen pizzas, I like the cheap ones better.

Give me a Totino's cardboard cutout with red sauce on top, and I am so happy. This cannot be beat.

I don't even heat them all the way up... just enough to thaw them out.

Oh, I want one now.

Digiorno IS good, but expensive.
Jack's is my favourite ^^

Anyone else ever notice that the cooking instructions are never the same among frozen pizzas? Or at least they weren't back when I was still picking a brand.

I eventually settled on Boboli bread shells. Put on a thin layer of sauce and dump a mess of cheese on it. 8 minutes.

Jiffy sells pizza dough mix, in the same size box as its muffin mix. I haven't had the balls to try that yet.

Also, I usually just have pizza delivered.

I loev the Digiorno Spicy Chicken Supreme pizza, keep at least one around all the time.

Those Little Caesar pizza kits that kids use in fundraisers are the best. You get a shitload of pizzas for like $10, and you can put whatever fresh toppings on them that you want. Spinach, tomato and artichoke heart is amazing.

WOW! I haven't had one of those in years. Growing up in Michigan our school would do a fundraiser selling those kits. They where so easy to make a 5 year old could make them (with parental supervision). Sadly I now live in Florida and cannot find them anywhere.

There are premixed pizza crust mixes in a box available in supermarkets, and it is not difficult or complex; in fact what is in the boxes is approximately Bisquick with a bit of cornmeal added. Just follow the directions and you can't go far wrong.

Mix a bit of fresh basil, oregano, garlic, and olive oil into tomato paste and smear it right on top of the pizza crust, then add your favorite toppings and a bit of mozzarella cheese.

My favorite frozen pizza brand is Tombstone. The crust is crisp like a cracker, which I really like for some reason

You have observed something very significant.

You cannot have good pizza if the crust is not good. No matter how good the sauce and cheese and toppings are, if the crust is not good, it will ruin the experience.

There's a pizza buffet chain called CiCi's Pizza in various cities in the US. I tried one once in the 1990s and tried one a thousand miles away two years ago, and it was the same: the crusts of the pizzas tasted like old stale bread that had been sitting on top of the refrigerator too long. They seem to buy their crusts pre-made and put toppings on them and throw them in the oven. They also seem to be buying the frozen crusts from the lowest bidder.

Just so, when a pizza sits in the refrigerator and gets old and cold, what's the most disturbing, wrong thing about it when you try to eat it cold the next day? The crust usually has hardened and turned into bread-flavored concrete. If you microwave it, and the crust softens, it will be edible again.

The crust is the fundamental foundation of the pizza. This is not to say that a good crust will allow you to use poor quality ingredients for the rest. Rather, it means that a bad crust means a bad pizza--a waste--and you cannot fix a bad crust by putting good toppings on it.

Frozen Pizza's taste HORRIBLE.

The cheese is usually god-awful, the sauce is always overloaded, and the crust always sucks. Pizza Shops have amazing pizza's, which I always recommend. Domino's and Papa John's taste amazing, and of course if your a business hating faggot, you can always try some local stores, local pizza shops always taste good.

Also: Pizza is incredibly easy to make from scratch, if your THAT much of a cooking fag. I love homemade pizza's, but I'm not going to be one of those guys who hates eating out at places when you can make shit at home.

Chicago Town, motherfuckers.

I like Goodfellas deep pan/crust best. Never liked the thin stuff, or those godawful blocks 'o tomato toppings.

Family pizza restaurants are the best

I like to microwave them enough to roll them up into a pizzarito and then bake them crispy and cut them into little round slices... It's one of the nicest ways I've found of making something crappy into something appetizing.

If I'm all by myself, though, I just roll it up and eat it, even if it's semi-cold in the middle still.

Seconding this guy.

Though, it's entirely possible he was me.

Don't know much about frozen pizzas. The only pizza I ever eat now is from a small neighborhood place that makes the best ones in the whole city. >>19 is right; pizza isn't worth eating unless you get it from a really good local place or you straight up make it from scratch.

The worst pizza I've ever had wasn't frozen, however. It is from Papa John's. There's too much cheese, the fucking pizza is chewy (pizza shouldn't be goddamn chewy) and I don't know what they put in that sauce, but every time I've ever eaten even one slice of Papa John's pizza I got the shits for the next hour at least. Fuck Papa John's, and fuck the idiot owner who appears on their commercials, because he's a goddamn liar.

I think a lot of the quality difference has to do with whether the people who work in the restaurant care about making a quality product. From any chain, from any local restaurant, you can get good pizza or bad pizza. If the managers are trying to save money by not throwing away ingredients that are going stale, if the cooks just don't care and just go through the motions, you will get bad pizza.

In different locations, in different cities, I have had good pizza from a Papa John's and bad pizza from a Papa Johns. I have had good pizza from a Little Caesar's and bad pizza from a Little Caesar's. I have had good pizza in small independent restaurants and bad pizza.

Not frozen, but if you live in the UK, some Asda stores have pizza counters where they make a fresh pizza for you. Then you take it home, refrigerate it, stick it in the oven for ten minutes, and enjoy.

Also, for leftover pizza:
