I caught a cold. "This sucks", I say to myself.
Today all I ate was leftovers in the fridge, which meant putting sliced pork, and instant noodles into a boiling pot of water along with an egg. It was delicious, even if most of my tastebuds aren't working. I wish I had some negi though...
Does anyone have an interesting sick day recipe?
well, the Japanese have a soup called Okayu, which is given to the sick because it super easy to digest, and it could help you in this predicament.
All you do is combine a 1-to-3 part mixture of rice and water (or if you have dashi stock), bring to a boil, and let simmer for about 30 minutes. It is pretty much a fortifying rice porridge, it would slip down the sorest of throats! You could add green onions, ginger, or salt for seasoning. You could even add your favorite broth to give it a flavor. I usually have miso and salt in mine. Its really good as well!
Tom Yum soup is a good one, I don't get sick very often, but I prefer this over chicken soup when I am. Here's one nice recipe, it uses shrimp, but you can leave them out or substitute other stuff to suit yourself if you're not into seafood.
A simple one is Oatmeal with brown sugar and a bit of milk on top.
I'll second oatmeal. Also, Jello.
Jello? Really? Never thought that would be good for a cold.
rice porridge eh? I wonder if this job could be trusted to the rice cooker.
When I have a cold, I always try to get lots of fluids and vitamins. Oranges are a good way to get both.
Monster Energy, tomato soup, and toast always work for me when I have colds. (Not fucking kidding about Monster (though any other energy drink with a similar or fruity taste works, too); it helps clear congestion and gives a small energy boost.
Cream of wheat FTW ^____^
