"A massive total of 221 First-Party NES, SNES and N64 titles could be availiable to download for free on the Revolution's launch."

Won't that take a shitload of bandwith?

Oh well, that's their problem. As long as we get the games.

Although I believe we need to buy an additional hard drive for Revolution to be able to download games. That's probably where Nintendo gets bandwidth money from. :/

I doubt it, considering the size of NES and SNES ROMs. The N64 games are a bit heftier, but I don't think there's very many of them.

Ah, crap.

"The much discussed games-downloading is bought up again, but unfortunately there’s some bad news. Nintendo will be charging you to download games from Nintendo's prior consoles. There will be several service types, such as free downloads which expire after a limited period. Iwata suggested that games may be downloadable for free as a reward for buying games, similar to the Stars Catalogue but much, well better to be honest. The downloads will be stored on the console's inbuilt 512MB memory, but if you fill that you can insert an SD memory card and load the games onto your computer. However file sharing will be unavailable, to prevent the games being pirated."

Nintendo. Masters of avoiding piracy.

It does make you wonder though, do other companies incorporate piracy into their software as a sort of "quiet" advertising method? Look at the Xbox... it had just about no security to prevent you hacking it up, copying its games and getting away with it. Shit, you could load linux on it ffs. But the gamecube on the otherhand, had silly little discs that nothing else could use, and the only way you could copy games from it was with an exploit for a single game, and even then you needed a computer running extra software to make it happen.

Then again... it could just be me.

I think you mean hardware, no?

Actually, it has DRM signatures. It took a lot of work to crack.

Not entirely so. It has cryptographic signatures on games, but this is not to prevent copying, it is to prevent the running of software not licensed through Microsoft. The crypto hasn't been broken (although some hilarious misguided attempts have been made), but it's been worked around.

So the revoulution is gonna have nes, snes, and n64 games but my friend said it should be able to play Gamecube games like with the ps and ps2. Does ne1 have ne information about that?

It is confirmed that the optical drive in the Nintendo Revolution will be able to play GameCube games, in fact, the "empty box" prototype that was shown at E3 did have GameCube controller ports.
