Downsized, but not gone. Today's big event is the Microsoft press conference, at 11:30 EST. Most of the big game news websites will be streaming it, as well as a broadcast on G4.

There was a trailer, but that's all. Graphics weren't amazing either.
Best of the show: Advance Wars DS 2
Worst of the show: Xblarg 360 HALO 3 EDITION
I think Sony actually won this one. It's not that their conference wasn't piss-poor, it was just mildly more interesting than the other two. Microsoft's was a joke (that Xbox is fucking ugly) and Nintendo's was the biggest disappointment ever.
I think Nintendo failed for hardcore gamers, but will succeed in attracting the attention they want. In tomorrow's or this weekend's newspapers and magazines, when the mainstream press do their yearly "oh wow look at this big conference just for games" articles, what do you think will draw more of their attention, and therefore column inches? WiiFit or Sony's and Microsoft's hardcore lineup?
Plus, even though the conference itself was thin on games, afterwards they put out a TON of announcements and info. AW DS 2, Touch Detective 2 1/2, Professor Layton, Trauma Center, Forever Blue, Mario Party DS, Nintendo Magic(!), Fire Emblem, etc.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Layton. I wonder how that will go over in the states.
Also, ITT we laugh at the PSP 'Slim' (AKA PSP minus 2-3 centimeters and no extra features except for video out).

Could go either way. Personally, I'm surprised that Touch Detective made enough sales here to justify bringing over the sequel. Wee, twice as many locations, longer, and an overarching story connecting the cases! :3
The slim is also 33% lighter! Who am I kidding. I was expecting them to at least do something about the huge exposed screen. Not to mention the Star Wars Battlefront game in one of the bundles looked choppy as hell.

The only reason I would get a slim is for media, and if they have at least an 8 gig memory stick out by then. PSP may be pricey, but it has the best screen out of anything out right now it seems. Of course, I could spend the same amount of money for a media player with 30GB, so I'll just stick with my DS until something big happens.
Speaking of, where is my Fire Emblem DS? I would rather have that then AWDS2. Also, I still want Cooking Navi in the states (with American recipes of course).
I read somewhere that they're sticking with the consoles for now with Fire Emblem. I want Cooking Navi too, but we may have to import they Europe version. :( It's kind of surprising that Europe is starting to get some of the DS application software first like this and english training.

oh and english training is for teaching english to non-english speakers, so there's not much point releasing in the US. it wasn't released in the UK either, only german/french/spanish/italian speaking countries
I was amused to see Mario Galaxy had Co-Op, but disappointed to see how limited it was. If you don't know the 2nd player doesn't really exist, they just use the wii-mote to collect stars and push bad guys around. I think all games could use more cooperative play.

Well, with the mario galaxy stage setup you could end up with a lot of camera issues, like having both players on opposite sides of a sphere. I don't think there's ever been a mainline mario game with simultaneous two-player. This is only meant as an introductory feature, to allow seasoned players to help people who are new to mario by doing more than just bark out oders and arcane commands, occasionally snatching away the controller when the newbie's failures become too irritating, thus creating a bad mood and turning off the new player from games. Expanding the market and all that.

Didn't the UK get french or spanish training? It still pales in comparison to what japan gets. They even have multiple travel phrasebooks for Thailand and other asian countries.
