Ocarina of Time (19)

All right, so I want to pick up some version of Ocarina that I can play on my Wii. Trouble is, there's too many choices:

  • There's the Collector's Edition, which apparently has problems and tends to crash randomly. Plus it might be a bit difficult to get my hands on. On the upside I'd end up with Majora's Mask (although that's buggy as well?) and Zelda 1 and 2 (lol Zelda 2), and slightly better graphics.
  • The Master Quest would be interesting, but (a) isn't really the original game, and (b) is still emulated so presumably still has the same problems as the Collector's Edition.
  • I could get it from Virtual Console, which from what I can tell would have no rumble (so? is it really that important?) Plus VC is annoying because I wouldn't get a physical product -- I'm oldschool, I like to have a real disc, and I like being able to look at my game shelf with everything on it. I don't feel like I really own stuff I've downloaded, it's just a bunch of stuff I downloaded onto an SD card. But, VC is most likely the easiest route and from what I can tell the most stable.

What's the best version of OOT to get? Has anyone had experience with more than one of them? Should I just shut the hell up and get the VC game?

The Master Quest disc includes the original version as well... and apparently Majora's Mask is buggy in the Collector's Edition but Ocarina isn't. And yes rumble is important. So, in summary, i dunno.

minor bugs. mostly audio glitches during some scenes. hardly noticeable. nobody would care if there wasn't a notice in the loading screen lol

Yeah, I'd like to play it on a real console that's hooked up to a nice TV, and not in a stupid window on my computer.

I don't know. Why does it have to be a Wii version? Do you have an N64?

I'd say maybe just go for Virtual Console...

Nope, that's exactly the point. I'd rather not have a whole shelf full of consoles that I only ever use for one game, and Virtual Console almost lets me do that, except the stupid lack of rumble is keeping me from wanting to get any N64 games. Maybe it's a dumb reason, but I don't see why it can't be implemented. I guess it's just as likely as seeing DVD playback without a modchip, though, which is a shame because the Wii does about everything else to make it the only thing hooked up to the television.

There are tons of games for the N64 you should play. Anyway, I haven't noticed OoT or Master Quest ever crashing on my Wind Waker bonus disc.

Also, rumble is not really important for OoT. I bought a rumble pak because of the Rumble Stone thing you obtain from the skulltulla family, but it's not really important.

Yeah, because restarting in Kokiri Forest everytime you run the ROM is excellent.

Honestly, I have the collector's edition, and the worst problem I've ever had are minor sound glitches. Other than that, it works fine.

Definitely get the Collector's Edition.

erm, ability to load/save at any point using load/save states?

> absolute bullshit. majora has slight audio glitches but neither have nothing of this sort. the person who has spread this either has faulty machine or fucked up/scrathed disc

I have the Master Quest version.
Only the dungeons are changed in it, and I'd argue that they were changed for the better.

Never noticed any problems with the game in my playthrough.

Most likely, the "best" version would be on the N64.
Rumble isn't that important (as a matter of fact, it's rather annoying), so unless it's really important to own it on a cd, I would get it on the VC.

What are you talking about. Project 64's been awesome at N64 emulation for a long time now.

my collectors edition works perfectly fine, so it should be fine, or get virtual console ?

I hear that some N64 emulators will work with the wiimote, and you can have Ocarina of Time work with the same control scheme as Twilight Princess.

But it seems like a lot of work.
