Tribes & Tribes 2 (10)

Now that Tribes has been resurrected in Garage Games, and Tribes 2 is still goin on like it does, I thought I should make a thread about it.

I've always been a HUGE fan of the original Tribes, although i was never very good, i still loved to play, and continue to do so once every few weeks. However, I'd always been a little weary of getting Tribes 2 because of some things I heard about it, and the cd stuff, and before I didn't have a computer that'd run it very well. however, that changed a while ago, and I found a copy of it for 5 bucks and baught it, just for the preservation factor.

Those of you who've played both, which do you prefer? Did you miss the lack of max_velocity from Tribes 1? Were the maps too large in Tribes 2? Does one have significantly more players than the other? What was your favourite aspect about each game?

About T1, i loved the awesome environments, scouts, huge mod community, level editor, simple yet effective design (not bloated, and can pretty much run on anything, even vista with a fanmade patch), and the whole thing packed up into a nice 100 meg package r so if you zipped it.

I like in T2, so far, many of the improvements that were modded into T1 came with T2. T2 has (finally) and AI - the scripted ones from T1 could only do so much, and cheated). MOre vehicles, but that can be bad. better graphics (now that i can run everything on max no prob) and I like how modding is still a big part!

please, tell me your T2 experiences, and T1 memories!

(I still remember the few times I spinfuzored someone outta mid air in T1!)

I love both games but in my opinion T2 had a lot of improvements over the first one. Back when it came out I remember barely to get it to run on my intel video chipset thing, and everyone was like "ZOMG GET A TNT2 IT IZ THE BEST"

But yeah there haven't been any games like it since. Unless you count Tribes: Vengeance, though the game mechanics were far too different and there were a lot of gamecrashing bugs, so I just didn't enjoy it much. I appreciate the attempt at a singleplayer campaign though.

it's too bad about Vengeance. they even made a patch to fix a lot of things, but for some reason they just didn't put it out for reasons unknown.

T1: The fact that many patches later, Voodoo cards (SLI) were still the best. TNT worked pretty well... shrug

If you could disc someone back than, ski (well), laser snipe someone while flying/skiing, nade-mine, etc... you probably still own FPS's

Maturity level also. Most servers people were really very civil. Could you imagine telling everyone something like "no base rape" in CS (and to a lesser extent TF2) and actually having them agree?

yeah, tribes was definitely always a tight knit community - even today, nobody gets kicked or banned from a server unless a lot of people see them screwning up. it might take a little while, but eventually the TK's and O-snipers are removed and a good game can be played.
