Is Persona 3 worth it?
I was browsing Amazon and the fact that it's $65 USD really turned me off.
Anyone else played it and think it's worth it?
It's not a bad game, but the dungeon crawling portion gets very boring, due to the uninspiring random levels and formulaic combat (determine enemy weakness, switch persona, cast proper attack spell, knock down enemy, all-out attack, repeat. That or do something different and die painfully.)
I'd pay maybe $30 for it, not $65.
Bumping this for the sake of conversation--I just bought this game myself and think I enjoy the school sections of this game more than the fighting.
Is this wrong?

Not at all. There's a lot more variety in the school sections, that's for sure.

I love the school parts too.
OP, if you get this game, do realize that you'll be waiting to the last possible minute to do any dungeon related things, since the relationships is a lot more fun.
Haha yeah, I myself am finding it hard to get around the Dark Hours portions of the game.
I've played it up to the end of the summer vacation and I just can't keep going on. The pacing is killing me. And I'm not talking about the tower, which is the fun part, especially since no levelling has been required yet. I hate all the stupid sim part. I clear ~30 floors and 2 bosses in one sitting, then I'm forced to spend 2 hours in the school raising stats and doing stupid shit, with long and unnecessary loading times, before I'm allowed to continue the game.
And because of the structure of the game you can't even whip out the Action Replay to spare yourself all the boring parts.
So P3:FES comes out in April, if anyone hasn't heard. It's priced at $30.
Serendipity!
They should have a director's cut version, yes, but except of making a game with added content, they should have REMOVED most of it.
They should remove all the parts where you've got to do cycles of watching a calendar animation for 10 seconds, waiting 5 seconds for the school entrance to load, overhearing 3 useless lines of discussion, waiting 15 more seconds to listen to a lecture in the classroom, waiting 10 seconds to get to talk to the guy from your school that lets you access the map, waiting 5 seconds for the map to load, waiting 5 seconds to see a little cursor move on the map to the shrine, waiting 10 seconds for the shrine to load, making a donation to improve by 0.1% your academics, hauling your ass all the way back to the school, listening to a bite-sized account of the mundane tragedies of one of your school buddy to watch a tarot card fly around the screen, wait for your dorm screen to load, go back to the map, wait for the mall to load, go to a cafe or karaoke to improve another dumb stat, wait for the dorm to load again, decide to go in your room, wait for your room to load, decide to study, wait for the study screen to load, and call it a day. AND THEN REPEAT THIS DAMN CYCLE ABOUT 25 FUCKING TIMES BETWEEN EACH MAJOR EVENT OR ACTUAL GAME SEQUENCE.
I also hated how you are supposed to date girls just to dump them for other girls f you want to improve some stats correctly. That's an horrible way of letting the game mechanics assrape the story you're trying to tell.
More than an half of Persona 3 was an accurate simulation of how incredibly boring high school life is.
If they made a game with only the 30% of good parts, it would one of the best JRPG ever. It would last "only" 20 hours, but at least it would be worth playing.
>>9 Amen brotha , and there's no way i'm playing FES when it comes out here. I HEARD THE MAIN CHARACTER CANNOT BE RETURNED TO LIFE..SO YOU PLAY THE ENTIRE FES GAME FOR SAVING THE PROTAGANOIST..BUT AT THE END IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.HAHAHA WHAT AN ENDING, THE KID STAYS DEAD. SO WHAT's THE POINT?
>>10 Finally, a game with a sense of similarity with the real world?
Persona 4 was announced recently. Same engine as 3. Will probably be full of boring unskippable stat-boosting sim parts, so I'll try to stay the hell away.
So we have some people who think the social stat building is boring and tedious and gets in the way of the dungeon crawling, and some people who thing the dungeon crawling is boring and tedious and gets in the way of the social stat building.
Is it polarizing or just a bad game?
Don't forget that by doing more of one of the tedious aspect you can give yourself an edge to do less of the other tedious part.
OP here, I'll try FES when it comes out and see what happens.
oh jeezes, i saw the persona 4 footage..it's the same thing:s. Back to school, midnigh clock..oh come on? I thought Persona was all about innovation but they gonna use the same formula? This time i'm skipping out, i remember the headaches i used to have speeding through those horrific repeating school lessons (and the socializing part..sucked).
I really hope we get to see Shin Megami Tensei (the original,no devil summoner or digital, just ORIGINAL!) with the fight against God/Yahweh or whatever. man Lucifer's call owned so hard..
Can you at least get some hot CLANG CLANG action in FES? This was pretty much the only character I cared about.
naw dude naw

I'm actually quite happy that they're keeping the relationships and non-dungeon shit.
If I wanted Persona without the slice of life, I'd play a real SMT.
Should I get FES if I have the original P3? o_o;
Persona 4's pretty much the same thing, huh....I guess I'll forget about getting that.

If you want an Aigis side story and a few more personas. It seems to be more aimed at people who haven't bought Persona 3 yet, especially with the $30 price tag.
so
the pal release
is it possible to have japanese voice in the PAL version?

Crackers on torrent sites actually made an "undub" version for the NTSC. (Which of course means that you can't have them in the commercial version)
I'm playing FES right now. ... I just want it to be over...
It's really quite boring.
