Touhou games are tons of fun.

I also like some of cave's shmup's like DoDonPachi and Mushihimesama.

those guro themed ones seemed to be pretty fun, though i can't recall the name of the series. Also Zen-ichi. And Engage to Jabberwock, even though it has that Zelda feel, all of the bullets flying around in danmaku fashion get me pumped.

-Trouble Witches (aka Tomboyish Witches)
-Babel Sword (It's a mugen standalone fighting shooter with mechs and lots of danmaku-style bullet patterns, lots of characters)

Dogma games:

  • Radio Zonde (Really hellish patterns, has a much needed infinite-life option but has really cool and long lasting bosses (especially the final boss), also note there are more than 2 characters that can be chosen)
  • HELLSINKER series

Games by x.x (makes Cave-like games)
Games by ABA games (rRootage)
Games by Artesneit (I think he has the guro themed games >>12 mentioned)
Games by Dogma (really hellish)

ESPGaluda (PS2 conversion) is a great game for beginners, and it stays fun afterwards, because its slow-motion gimmick can either let you get past difficult parts or score big.

Under Defeat is awesome and the graphics are great too. It plays fine on both chankast and nulldc, it just doesn't look as good due to many graphical glitches, but it's perfectly playable.
