Let's say there was a bad ending, a good ending, and a great ending in a game. It was possible to reach the first two endings no matter what you do, but there were "unwinnable" situations where it was impossible to reach the great ending. Would that seem fair to you?
No, but I can't think of a single game that was techinically unable to get the "great ending". Hell, Even Ghoul's and Ghosts (was that the name of the NES one?) was winnable - as long as you were DAS UBERMENCH.
>>2
I think it is spelt Der Ubermench (proper letters accents aside).

Care for giving some examples?
So like, what? The game reputably has 3 endings, but its impossible to get the "best" ending. Wouldn't that just mean it has two endings?
Or do you mean its incredibly hard to get the best ending? Almost to the point that it seems impossible?
>>7 is a fake. Steam doesn't distribute BF2, don't risk losing your steam account.
Back on topic. Yes, there are some games. I remember Fahrenheit's "Neutral" ending required a lot of different conditions throught the game, all linked and necessary to unlock the ending.
And that's not mentioning S.T.A.L.K.E.R's true ending. There are 7 "fake" endings, but reaching the 2 "true" endings requires retracing your steps to the beginning and playing an extra two levels full to the brim with exo-warriors.
But still, for me, it was worth it.
>>6 That's not even close to what I mean. Remember those text adventure games where they often had unwinnable situations? It's like that, except it only applies to the best ending. If you make a mistake, you'll have to start over if you want the best ending, but you can get the other endings without starting over.
so like in Disgaea, where you couldn't get the best ending unless you didn't accidentally kill a teammate? Once you did, you couldsn't get the good ending that time around.
The first thing that popped into my mind was Cave Story.
Once you miss getting the tow rope, you can't get the best ending anymore. Even if you did get the tow rope, if you miss jumping out of the water to get to the door while carrying the girl, she dies and you can't get the good end anymore.
How I hated that part so much, it's really hard to jump at the right time onto that door.
>>12 I got the rope, entered the room, and revived her, but still couldn't go into the house at the end for the best ending.
After beating a majority of the game without the booster, I was kinda pissed that all of a sudden I couldn't get the ending.
What about those hard as hell old videogames? Ninja Kid II comes to my mind. Damn hard!
Reminds me of a friend who was talking about this game he made back when he was in tech class, when he went to highschool (6yrs ago)
It was hangman, but the only difference was that if you got it right, he would get out of the noose, walk a bit and then shoot himself :/
He called it his unwinnable game.
TL;DR my friend is an idiot.
