> why am i a DQN? beacuse i have my own opinion?

No, because your opinion is incoherent.
This forum being rather small as of yet does not have anything to do with originality.
And this concept is in fact very original, at least to the western part of the internet.
And your example for originality (GAIA) is dumb. So they added some fancy graphical effects to their custom phpBB version. Whoopdeedoo, how is that original? Wait, don't answer that.
It doesn't matter anyway.

Well, it's true. 2channel type forums are pretty much only known to people from Japan, Taiwan, etc., i.e. people from eastern countries. It makes sense to generally refer to these people online as "the eastern part of the internet", just as it makes sense to classify the mostly English speaking population of the internet as "the western part of the internet".

65 Name: Random Anonymous 2005-10-10 18:36 ID:AV9pMM92

Gaia is the worst internet community ever.

By western part he means English speaking. And there is a western part of the internet, it's all of the servers hosting websites in the western hemisphere.

Not only that but you can buy stuff, trade? it has a nice interface and it is very easy to understand right away.
It's just like a minigame.

>>66
Yes, i think it is very unoriginal.. But what forum isn't?
The thing is.. users who dont know about 2channel +85% of the internets forum browsers, look at this site as a kind of shitty 1996/windows 95 forum (it looks like it)..

but for heavens sake dont change anything! Im just saying the first impression might scare noobs/good posters away.
Im all good with this as i stated in my first post.

68 Name: Random Anonymous 2005-10-10 19:01 ID:Heaven

I don't really see a problem with people getting driven off because 4-ch does not "look pretty" or whatever.

But it would be cool to be able to customize 4-ch more. Something that 2channel achieves with its many custom browsers (www.monazilla.org). 4-ch doesn't have enough users as of now to support the development of such a tool and even if it would get done it's unlikely newbies would get attracted through it.

The best thing to do, about helping 4-ch right now, is to contribute good posts, get involved and spread the word a bit here and there if it's appropriate.

Heh..?
2ch-type boards do not look pretty?
That is completely and utterly up to the board admin. It's easy to make pretty looking shells for the system. it won't have "nifty" stuff like your own doll like gaia or so.. But seriously..
Sky's the limit, folks.

http://www.csszengarden.com/

I was under the impression 2ch-type boards tended to look like here at 4-ch and 2ch because crude design loads way quicker, is easier to maintain, can conform to standards easier, more difficult to break - plus that it's way easier and quicker to whip up.
Besides, it has a more friendly charisma than most highly polished and designed sites. Makes it feel more like it really is the contents that matters.
Not that I wouldn't complain about prettier boards. Just saying, this isn't bad at all. It makes it quick and easy to read. Which is what matters.

72 Name: kage-tan!YtLk0e6tn2 2005-10-11 09:49 ID:F98NAxpa

i probably also should add, that out of all the various board looks, i prefer the default one.

Why do you still post there? What draws you to an (admittedly) poor community?

>>67
To a certain extent, simple design can be a good limiting concept. If a bunch of people base their first impressions on shiny stuff (or lack thereof), does 4-ch really want them as users? Sure, their tastes and perspecitive will change, and at some point they may become a mature, good poster - but does 4-ch have to be their testing-ground?

76 Name: Random Anonymous 2005-10-11 12:37 ID:t7D4KfdZ

>I don't really see a problem with people getting driven off because 4-ch does not "look pretty" or whatever.

you dont? what about the problem of to few posters (A.K.A 4chan)?
There should not be any "LIMITING" or "SCARE AWAY" artifacts in a openminded and big BBS.

>>75

>If a bunch of people base their first impressions on shiny stuff (or lack thereof), does 4-ch really want them as users?

well yes, 4chan wants them as users. or should i say NEED "them". more people = more discussion

right now, 4chan is a underground community for 4chan/2chan lovers.. let's not keep it that way.

If there is nothing wrong with people who like simplistic design, "2channel ripoff", there should be no problem with people who likes design and "original" stuff.

>>77
it doesnt matter, stay on the subject.

what does matter is that 4-ch hasn't grown so much (i do not know statistics) but it still feels very slow.
So whats the problem here? There are so many people out there who knows about 2channel & love it, yet nobody seems to bother comming here.

81 Name: Random Anonymous 2005-10-11 17:22 ID:Heaven

>>80
People who do know about 2channel are either a) Japanese (and thus content with 2channel itself) or b) "Westerners". The latter are either content with their ten thousand already existing forums, usenet, IRC, etc. as forms of communication. I figure it'd be hard to "convert" them all in a short ammount of time. Also, while many may have heard about 2channel, 4-ch is a more obscure site in the www. And then there's also that fragmentation of possible userbase with world4ch, although I suspect there's quite a lot of us who visit both 4-ch and world4ch.

tl;dr: I think it just takes time. 4-ch has grown, although it's hardly noticable. Patience is probably the key, there doesn't seem to be a magical remedy for the feeling of slowness.

I go to both 4-ch and world4ch, and on the surface it doesn't look like there's much difference in the posting rates. Is association with 4chan should give world4ch much more activity than it's seeing at least more compared to 4-ch. I think 4chan might be hindering world4ch's growth. I often find starting threads in /a with the intent of lengthy discussion while apparently ignoring the limitations of the image board format, throwing in an image as an afterthought. Of course, it barely lasts a day before it can't be bumped anymore and slips into oblivion. Had it been posted to the disscussion board, it would have had a chance to develop and grow, adding more attention and activity to the board.

I know exactly what you mean. I suggested one day that maybe /b/ should have just been redirected to /vip/ for a day so people will get used to the idea of posting on a 2ch system; but unfortunately I get the feeling that most of them are there because they just want to make retarded image macros with mspaint and try to become internet celebrities. I do want world4ch to grow, however, because I think that it deserves to have more posters. The interesting thing to note is that almost all the posters who go there "get" the system due to the 4chan influence on the culture. I'll admit that if I'd found world4ch without knowing a thing about 4chan or 2ch it would have daunted me, not to mention the fact that I only found out about 2ch and the Japanese side of the internet through the time I've spent at 4chan. lol extra green onion pls im a vetran
