(Moved from DQN)
It was my birthday today, and I turned 18. So far I have:
* Apply for Selective Service. Why did I mention this? Because pretty much every guy I asked the above question responded with this -- for several people, it was the first thing that came to mind. wtf?
* Buy cigarettes, I might try smoking, but it's pretty unlikely I will. Too expensive :/
* Get a handgun permit. I will do this, but I have no money to buy gun, so it's useless right now.
* Go to a strip club. Waste of money, I have interbutt.
Anything I can be happy about, or should dread?
Well, you're legal now, so you don't need your parent's permission for anything.
Other than that, 18 wasn't a big deal for me.
you can visit all the porn sites that you already visited, but now you can do it legally.
you can order stuff off of infomercials and commercials where they're like "you must be 18 or older to order".
How's that?
You can begin your wonderful fall into the world of debt!
You can buy porn mags?
You can cause trouble, get arrested, and have it stick to your record and/or trialed as an adult! :D
As for me turning 18 was great since I could
But I guess you already were permitted to drive, and you'll have to wait two more years to buy beer. In that case turning 18 isn't a big deal.
Well, if you are living in the right country, you can buy alcohol legally, at least here.
I send my 11 year old nephew to get me cigarettes here. no problems.

if you are living in the right country, you don't need to buy alcohol.
I'm in the US, so no alcohol until 21. I will be moving to Japan, but I'll easily be 21 by then. It's unfortunate that all states settled on 21 for drinking :/
> It's unfortunate that all states settled on 21 for drinking
Wrong.
>>11 i believe its federal law that the drinking age is 21, thanks MAAD for fucking things up us all
and im not certain but im quite sure handguns can bought at the age of 21 not 18.
You can post on 4-ch about it
>>13
Not certain but quite sure?
Yeah, the age to buy a handgun permit is 18. Concealed carry, however, is much higher. 21 or 23 I think.
>>13
I think it only outlaws purchase and public possession for minors. You can still drink in private property in many states.

I checked this out, and you were right; laws do vary by state. In Georgia, where I live, you can only drink if your parents give it to you and they are supervising. Like I give a fuck, my parents let me drink anyways.
a question, here: how much is the US drinking age enforced?
In the UK it varies - I'm 18 and probably look a bit younger, but personally I've only been asked for ID about three times. It's never too hard for anyone from puberty onwards to find a pub or shop that's willing to serve them alcohol, and one local club always seems to be full of drunk 16 year olds (although most others ID on the door, so they tend to be full of drunk university students)
US drinking age is pretty strictly enforced, a holdover from Prohibition I suppose. They crack down on attempted buys too; I recently saw several teenagers being patted down by a police officer outside of a liquor store.
...
One of the reasons I love Europe - none of this bullshit Puritan attitude towards alcohol. If people were exposed to alcohol in a regulated environment with their parents or at a bar where they're supervised and not driving or anything, we wouldn't suffer from alcoholism and drunk driving to the same extent now. We don't just give kids a full driver's license without preparation at age 18, why do we effectively do so for alcohol? It can be just as dangerous to those who don't know what they're doing. Having college kids binge at 21 certainly doesn't teach them anything beyond the wonders of 20 psi vomiting.
Lol i'm 18 in one week and i was thinking the same things
XD
In Norway you can get a credit card!!
>>21
Same in the US, but I don't need one. I got a free debit card when I did this school program, and I was only 17 at the time.
I got a free credit card with my debit card, in Norway. I use it for stuff on the interweb.
dropout
depending on the state you can gamble. Here in AZ you have to be 21 but I am not sure on other states.
