Cherry blossom season (17)

...is coming up. By chance I found a few trees nearby last spring, so I'll see them again this year. Tiny pink buds are just starting to sprout. Is anyone else going to see them, maybe with friends?

I planted one about 2 years ago. The tree is healthy and growing, but it only put out 2 blossoms this year. >:( I felt cheated.

One of these days I'm going to go to D.C. for cherry blossom season.

It's Hanami in Philadelphia, and quite beautiful. We have many, many cherry blossoms along the river drives.

Are they hard to grow?

The blossoms were in bloom in Seattle a few weeks ago. They are now wilting away, but I got to walk to class while petals rained down on me. :)

This one hasn't been, really. Just stick it in the ground, keep it watered and keep insect repellent on it. Occasionally, I'll put some slow-release fertilizer spikes in the ground around it over winter.

Of course, it helps that the climate here is fairly close to that of Japan, so it's adapted pretty well.

Wow, it's like right out of a dating-sim-turned-anime! AWESOME! :D

Hanami in Kyoto was simply beautiful. A bit crowded, but beautiful.

I'm shocked nobody mentioned the word "sakura" yet. Oh, well...

I was fighting the impulse.

We did get 'hanami', though. That has to count.

I'd like to order a few more... but I don't really have anywhere to put them. :\

yay

I'll have to look into this tree-buying idea.

You can order them from the Arbor Day Foundation... about $12 each, $8 if you're a member.

Kickass site, they give away 10 trees with a membership. Looks like US only though. ;_;
