If you're not in first or business class, there isn't much reason to take your laptop out. There's no room unless you're a midget. You're better off with something small, like a book (provided you aren't easily distractable). >>7 sounds like fun too.

Also, try to get a seat on an aisle. Put in some earplugs and cover them with large sealed headphones. Take a walk every hour. Constantly pester the attendants for something to drink. Yadda yadda.
