Race and culture don't qualify or disqualify someone for enlightenment or knowledge of Buddhism. Rate the book on its own merits.

I meant in terms of scholarship. The Buddhism that most people know (and talk about) is more or less manufactured bullshit from Suzuki and Henry Olcott. I mean, shit, Olcott's book is more or less the "holy book" for Sri Lankan Buddhists, and it was written by some Civil War vet who couldn't read Sanskrit at all.

A member of my family is in the Soka Gakkai. For years I thought Buddhism was about repeating Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for hours everyday.
