Well how about that eh? I've lived in sydney for a bit more than 2 weeks now and I just got mugged on the way home from work....

Here's what happened: I was catching the train home from work and I get off at wahroonga. I walk up the stairs and there's about 20 guys hanging around at the top. there's this guy walking towards me looking me in the eyes. He approaches me and says "Gimme your shit".
At this point I established that he wasn't the most elequent of attackers. I thought about saying something smart arsed, but I decided to make an attempt at ignorance. I start to walk away, but he stands in front of me blocking my path, and a couple of his mates were blocking my path backwards. So I decide to make an attempt at communication on a level he could understand.
"What shit?"
"Phones, wallets, money, whatever you got"
In a hope that he's not real bright, I decide to feed him some bullshit.
"I don't have anything, I just moved here. I've got a pack of smokes. Thats it"
"....Well... fuckin.... give us them"
So I pull out my pack of smokes and hand them over. At this point he took the smokes and returned to his mates.

So I got off pretty easy, considering that I now still have my phone, my wallet containing upwards of $400 in cash and, of course, I didn't get my head smashed into the pavement by at least 20 guys.

So I walk away, call the cops and continue on home. I'm still adrenelating, cos I don't have any goddamn smokes to calm down with... What a blow out.

Well, at least you kind of kept your cool, didn't get hurt and still have most of your stuff.

Yeah, it definitely seems like he wasn't too bright. Still kinda sucks, but now you have a story to tell.

I had a guy attempt to mug me once. He didn't succeed... I was walking home really late, and he stepped out in front of me in a park (he must've been waiting behind a big bush to the side of the path) and said "Give me your wallet, now." So... I said "No", and walked round him without stopping. I think the only reason he didn't come after me is because he was sort of suprised by how I reacted.

My friend told me this story:

He was living in New York and he was coming back from a evening service at church and some guy came up and said "Give you all your money" My friend said "I don't have any money, just a Bible, I just came from church" The mugger looked nervous and people were coming down the street so he left. When he told his family his brother said that he was being a pussy. That same night his brother went out and got robbed of everything on the same street.

Basically what I do is when I am out late I stick 20 bucks in my front pocket and if someone tries to mug me I just say this is all I got and they take it and run off. Its usually crackheads looking for quick cash and they can take what they can get.

Foolproof solution: carry a syringe.

When threatened, cut sick with the fit, babbling about how you have HIV and you don't give a fuck, etc.

Or you could go the shitting in the street option.

Crazy is scary.

Since when is it illegal to have a syringe?

I don't think it is... but they would wonder why the heck you had it (drug use, etc.) and might consider you possibly dangerous because of it.
