Is Anonymous lying? (62)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 10:11 ID:agX+rBUt

When posting in topics, how many of you lie about your age, race, gender or …
Do you lie about having a personal experience on a certain topic while you have not?
Or do you hands down do multiple posts with different IPs making fake conversations?

If you do, or don’t, why? What is your motivation to lie, or not to lie?

cmon loosen up, you are Anonymous and no one is arguing over a subject here, its just a survey, so tell the truth.

2 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 12:14 ID:pZt3YBKx

I haven't lied on 4-ch, although I've only really posted things about myself a couple of times. I don't really feel the need to, with this being anonymous and all.

I don't think I've been JISAKU JIEN either.

3 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 13:01 ID:SLjCnfsC

I don't see the point in lying, esspecially at an anonymous BBS. What can you get out of it? (Unless you just get off on those kinds of things.

I think I have Jisaku Jien once or twice, but it was to bump or generate response to a thread or comment no one else replied yet, and I felt bad while doing it. :(

4 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 15:41 ID:C3ob72qJ

As stated above, no reason to lie here, but then again, I haven't told anybody on 4ch some really personal stuff about me.

As for the multiposting, I have done that, but I haven't talked to myself. When I've done it, it was mostly because I forgot something in my first or second post.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 16:59 ID:16jeaKVW

( ・∀・)I do jisaku jien all the time.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 18:08 ID:66MWOpYb

I lie about my age for obvious reasons but everything else is truth.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-11 21:55 ID:feV7vaIt

i don't lie, it's anonymous, who cares. sometimes i'll modify the truth a little bit to avoid being identified if i'm posting something personal, but that's just to cover my real-life arse. i've never pretended to be a different age, sex, race, sexual orientation, or whatever.

although i jisakujien'd a couple of times.

8 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-12 04:48 ID:agX+rBUt

nah, if i am talking about something that happened I tell the truth, but here and there i do cut stuff out to make it more brief, nothing that is important to my self or others!
i have bumped a few times, but never talked to my self or jisakujien... whatever that means ...

9 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-12 11:47 ID:/1K9mP6w

I've lied a bit in the past because it was simpler to type out than the truth. I've talked to myself once or twice. I've told anonymous my deep dark secrets. It's all good.

10 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-12 15:49 ID:eVeO/oz5

I do not lie when i'm Anonymous, my age, race, sex, and past...
I bring them all out to you.

11 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-12 17:05 ID:phZsYw6+

Anonymous is anonymous, so what's the point in lying? Sure, I'll admit i'm 27 and have never had a girlfriend. What, it's the truth. Besides, if I'm REALLY afraid of being found out I can just proxy my IP and nobody will ever know.
...unless some pesky coworker spies on me. /paranoia

12 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-13 18:04 ID:HqYd8p+u

I lie through my teeth...metaphorically speaking, on the interbutts.

13 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-13 18:06 ID:j+SXN5bV

I've done jisaku-jien, lied about myself, and talked to myself on 4chan, but never here. I try to keep 4-ch untainted. Besides, anyone who has used the internet for more than 3 years can tell when you're replying to your own post.

14 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-13 19:26 ID:9lhu/ZIA

Yes, exactly. I try to keep all the shit like that for 4chan, and use 4-ch for awesomeness!

Imagine if this entire thread was actually just 1 person!

In internet chats I'm a sweet, innocent 13-year-old girl.

Other than obviously personally identifiable things, I'm pretty much completely open and honest online (even in places like 4chan, where I am a somewhat-recognizable tripfag). The online world has been a major part of my life for years, and I don't see why I should treat it any differently than I would interacting with others in real life.

of course not...i am a 14 year old boy from Manila, Philippines...i would never lie, honest

23 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-20 05:10 ID:BYhIV6bb

I've never lied on 4-ch, or on 4chan to be honest (pun intended).

24 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-21 11:02 ID:S3w3trtx

Never lied on 4-ch, except maybe in Jisaku Jien posts, I can't remember.

I don't really post on 4chan, just lurk.

I'm honest on other imageboards and Anonymous BBSes I go to, though.

25 Name: Anonymous : 2006-12-26 01:56 ID:XtXn/gM6

"I am now speaking falsely", referring to the words I just said. If I speak truly when I said this, then i am lying. If I am speaking falsely when I said this, I am speaking the truth.

So what i say is true if, and only if, it is false; which seems absurd.

One response claims that I say nothing true and nothing false. But a variant makes trouble:; Jill says "I am now not speaking truly". If Jill is not speaking truly when this is what she says she is up to, she is speaking truly. If she is speaking truly, then she must be doing what she says, that is, not speaking truly. So, it seems, what she says is true if, and only if, it is not true.

i don't say if i'm male or female unless people ask, and most of the time i refuse to tell people even if they do ask. i'm not looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend on the internet, so it doesn't matter.

I don't lie on 4ch, but I've lied on IRC just to fuck with people a few times.

No point in doing that here.

Actually lying on 4-ch can cause much entertainment and drama. See this troll thread for example

PARANOIA PARANOIA

I don't lie while anonymous, and rarely online. I sometimes cut off parts or slightly bend reality for narrative purposes, but nothing that would be "lying".

Although I sometimes lie by omission (or simply avoid saying stuff), mostly when I don't want to reveal identifiable things, or when I don't want to give matter most probably leading to off-topic discussions.

Actually I think I lie waaaaaaaay more IRL. Internet, honest business?

40 Name: Anonymous : 2007-02-15 22:24 ID:Heaven

>Internet, honest business?

Apparently. It does feel a lot less dangerous to be more honest here. Too many strangers, I think. Not having to put up with people as closely as in IRL makes you less cautious about what you say to them.

41 Name: Anonymous : 2007-02-16 03:09 ID:mbKTLuYg

I only lie on 4-ch when it's something I would lie to myself about.

Also, I definatley jisaku-jien on 4-ch /b/ threads I post, because there is no other way to make it be noticed. If I don't jisaku-jien it won't be bumped, and will go to the second page before anyone gets to see it.

42 Name: Anonymous : 2007-02-16 07:20 ID:GeVhpQvw

i often lie simply because i can, and because i hate giving out 100% true info about myself, especially online.
in real life i never lie (because it works better the 1 time out of 100 i do and no one expects it...) its nice to make up shit and know that no one can ever be really sure if your jerking their chain

45 Name: Anonymous : 2007-02-17 04:10 ID:GNL0Odn9

I lie often. I do it in order to gauge the intelligence of the audience, or sometimes the character of specific individuals. By creating a well understood chunk of misinformation, such that its flaws and knowledge depth or scope are well known by me, reactions from other individuals concerning it give me a good indication of their perception. For example, presenting a flawed algebraic equation might separate children from teenagers, but presenting a flawed topological construction will separate mathematicians from non-mathematicians. Following a thread usually produces a nice logical rhythm, that one can deliberately disrupt in order to analyze the methods employed to remediate the discourse. This gauging makes me feel closer and less anonymous. Enough of it, over an extended period of time, lets me find really REALLY beautiful girls OMFG.
