What is the strangest food that you have eaten, or tried to eat???
Besides have escargot (snails), i've had dog (wasn't very good)and i've had frog shiskibarb (also unpalatable).
One more, ive tried roasted silkworms (cocoon included): tastes and smells really bad (it's a Korean dish called Bon degi).
I knew a guy who tried donkey while on a trip to China (can't remember if he liked it or not.
I ate raw horse when I was in Japan. Nothing really to say about it. It tastes like raw horse.
I've never eaten bugs, they probably taste good but the concept is nasty.
Has anyone had snake or grasshopper???
>>2 My aunt's from China and she was just talking last night about eating donkey and how it's good. It was actually tied into a debate about Christianity somehow!
gb2 /food/
I have a feeling that donkey probably tastes like horse, which in turn possibly tastes like ass/mule.
There was a recent report i heard somewhere, that in Irian Jaya there are still tribes that eat human flesh. Taking my first paragraph into account, would we taste like our closest relatives, the monkey?
I've tried shit, which tasted like...shit.
>>8
Was it served as food or did you just sample it for your own reasons?
Oh it was served as food, and costed quite a bit at that. I can't remember exactly where I had it. it was somewhere in Vegas if i remember correctly.
snails, forg, ants, diffrent bugs and plants horns from a raindeer but as powder..
I tried dried ants in Cambodia. It wasn't bad, but wasn't the best food i've tried neither. Drinking it with beer helped.
I've had raw mince in a korean restaurant, once. I know mince is not anything special, but come on, raw. It was actually, delicious.
i ate dog in china. it tasted horrible.(i dont mean to offend chinese pple)
Hi
I tried betal nut, once. I ate it, mixed with pepper seed. It gave me a coffee high, but taste like crap (also, u get red stained teeth).
Skimming past this thread, I misread >>15 as:
> I've had raw mice in a korean restaurant, once.
I ate dog in PI, it was damn good. There were a lot of bones though.
according to deliciousdogs.com the taste varies by breed, so I guess you shouldn't rule out dog if you've only tried it once
When i was in Korea, i ate a korean restaurant.

Wow, how large was it? That can't have been easy to fit in your stomach.
I heard in Germany ate a human. In court the fellow's alibi was, "he wanted me to eat him".
Weird stuff!!
hahahaha , well , I tried sashami once and I threw up after wards. i doubt i'll be able to eat strange stuff.
O wait, i used to eat this flower that tasted sweet when I was 9, I ate one or two each day!
>>26
Yeah, my family had bought a flower that tasted like Peach skin. We pretty much ate most of it over time/
I like to travel and try new things so I've had some stramge things, I'm just going to list a few (all cooked unless stated otherwise)
apple curry
Curry noodle
raw LIVE baby octopus (in which I threw up immidiately)
crocodile meat (doesn't taste like any other meat I've had)
kangaroo meat
deep fried spiders
snake meat
Rat burger (I blame demolition man for this one)
frog legs....
the most bizzare I had was chocolate-coated deepfried chicken, due to a slight cooking accident on my side.
>apple curry
I've had curry flavored with apple, it's pretty good.
>raw LIVE baby octopus
I've seen videos of people eating that, it looks disgusting as hell. I heard one guy choked to death eating that when the octopus intentionally lodged itself in his windpipe.
I'm a vegetarian, so most of the weird animals are out for me. If I wasn't I'd have no problem trying them though. Weirdest thing I've had is probably Natto, fermented soybeans. They're covered in a slimy bacterial growth and smell like paint. It's an acquired taste.
I'm sure many asians can relate when I say that most foods don't phase me. Some common dishes I've tried;
-Chicken feet (You're not really Chinese if you don't eat them).
-Lamb brains
-Chicken Head (Yes, it looked like a freakin chicken still)
-Fish eyes (Parents always eat these when we have fish)
-Cow tongue
-Worms, like silk worms but smaller
-Bone marrow
That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now.
A lollipop with detoxified snake vemon in...(absolutely delicious)...another lollipop, with ants in this time (also delicious)...and then the best curry, I've ever tasted; crocodile curry. Ahhh, lovely. Tastes kinda like chicken. Oh, I also ate reindeer pate. It tasted absolutely awful.
Grilled Alligator Strips - Vaguely like light poultry meat, but much better tasting.
Mountain Oysters - Look em up if you don't know what they are. They're actually quite tasty, too, though I can't recall what they tasted like, but I got seconds and thirds even after I found out what they were. I think my uncle was a bit disappointed that I didn't react much when he explained to me what I was eating, though.
Live Moth Caterpillars - This wasn't intentional. The little bastards had hatched in some imported candy I bought somewhere (they weren't supposed to be in the candy, I should mention) and I was too distracted eating until I'd had a few pieces and noticed the texture was off from what it usually was. At this point, I broke one up and noticed the things squirming around. All the others were like that, and I threw them away. I was worried they might make me sick, but either I didn't eat enough, or they were harmless to eat. I assume the latter, but I don't intend to eat them if they show up again.
Live Sugar Ants - Similar thing, sorta. Late night programming and I had a glass of Bailey's on my desk that I was slowly drinking. I'd gotten about halfway through the glass and hadn't touched it for a bit. I wasn't looking at it when I'd picked it up again to take another drink and found myself with something like a few crystals of sugar in my mouth after I swallowed. My mind on the program, I took another drink and only then realized that this was not usual and furthermore that one of the little sugar crystals had a deathgrip on the inside of my lip. Looking down at the glass I saw that the rim was covered in small black sugar ants (aside from the gap where I had drunk) and quite a few had fallen in, undoubtably to their demise. I set the glass back down and failed to finish it, although I admit being torn over wasting the two or three more swallows of delicious Irish Cream.

You just put me off imported candy for life x_X
haha..i tasted some of em.
but..as being a Filipino..
even though there's a damn stereotype that asians eat dog.
we never do anymore =]
but..bizarre food?
ii gotta say Balut!
its a Filipino delicasy..that involves a fertilized duck egg on a near embryo stage..you ahve to boil it and eat it in the shell.
even though..it looks nasty [i was disgusted at my first try]..it taste good.
High in protein but also high in cholesterol..
but we Filipinos dont mind about it..because we have high metabolism and can just get rid of the bad wastes fast =]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut
for more info =]
haha..

I hear there's some substance that was developed to simulate the taste of human flesh. It was made for reformed cannibals who still have cravings. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called though.
Cow tounge. It tastes good with a bit of mayo.
