T-Mobile myFaves (5)

I know this could be "tech," but it's so barely technical I'll post it here...

T-Mobile has myFaves, and Alltel has MyCircle. Apparently these let you choose 5-10 people and call them for free.

However... how much good is this, really, if the other side has to pay normal/long-distance/whatever fees to receive the call?

Or am I wrong in assuming that they still have to pay, even if it's free for you...?
