Hi everyone, I was just wondering:
Which of you would be willing to renounce your original citizenship(s) to become Japanese citizens? Or that of some other country?
Under which conditions would you be willing to lose your citizenship of birth?
What do you do, once you've renounced your home citizenship and you're sitting in your new country, as a foreigner, but a citizen?
I'd renounce my original citizenship only if my country rejected me, i.e. deported me and declared me persona non grata. Which, in the current legal framework (not to mention international law), is not actually possible.
In general,if i lived in the country for several years and planned on continuing to do so. AND changing citizenship gained me something i needed (better loan or whatever)
Only if Britain (my home) turned into a nasty fascist state. Then I'd go to AMERICA. Canada would be fine too. Or New Zealand. Only English-speaking countries, yes.

I live in The States, currently I think we are more likely to turn into a fascist state because most people are so against socialist ideas. But if things start to really go down hill I would move to Canada. Also saging this faggot weeaboo thread.
I'd do it just for shits and giggles.
Not Japan though. I don't moonspeak so yeah.
I'd only be willing to ever move to some northern european country, but I'd never renounce my birth citizenship, instead go for plural citizenship.
(IIRC renouncing American citizenship is nearly impossible.)
I thought about becoming Japanese, but only because anything is better the the USA.
There is a difference between waps and normal people converting.
I am a United States Citizen and I would renounce my United States Citizenship in a heartbeat to become a citizen of Japan. Once I become a citizen of Japan I would immediately learn how to read and write the Japanese language as well as speak it fluently. I would marry a cute, tough, Japanese girl that can cook and likes to wear China dresses.
Ohh yeah!
meh, permanent residency should cut it for most things. I guess there are perks to citizenship. Like voting, if you're into that sort of thing.
Those accustomed to thinking in terms of US immigration law are in for a rude surprise.
Japan does NOT grant citizenship to foreigners. Maybe if you saved the Empress's life. But probably not even then.
No, marrying a Japanese citizen will NOT get you dual citizenship.
Japan is a tiny, highly urbanized, very crowded country. They don't like immigrants. They don't want your maladjusted weeaboo asses.

I give you, the cancer that is killing 4-ch all in one thread.
What the fuck are you talking about? Plenty of foreigners have gone through Japanese naturalization. What do you think all those Korean-Japanese are doing there?
Here's what you need, unlike the US requirements, there is no fee.

>>38
Who is the cancer, though? The weeaboos? The anti-weeaboos? Both?
>>40 The "zapanese," you mean? They, along with Chinese and Filipinos, do the dangerous, low-paying shit jobs that not even the mura-no-mono caste will do, and they're lower on the social totem pole than the mura-no-mono are. They are despised by all pureblood Japanese, almost as much as whites are, though white tourists are tolerated as long as they're just spending money in Akihabara and then going home on a fast plane.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burakumin
Or just head on over to DQN or the ASCII Art board and have a look at a delightful little character named "Nida," and you will see how the pureblood Nihonjin really feel about their cousins from the peninsula.
I'm under the impression that 4-ch is composed of three main groups of people (in order of frequency):
Dumbass, since when does 2ch represent mainstream Tokyo attitudes towards foreigners?
We all know anonymous internet text boards breed far-right neo-conservative racist spammers like nothing else. This is famously the most negative aspect of 2ch and is lamented by Foreigner and Japanese centrists and leftists alike. The centrists and leftists don't spam because they don't have anything to prove. Japan is a liberal, democratic country, with an increasingly globalized culture.
As for the Zainichi, they've come along way in recent decades and are about as prominent as any small ethnic minority in a largely homogenous country.
And if you think the neo-cons are popular right now, check out Mr. Abe's popularity ratings. That guy makes Bush look loved.
Hi!
You forgot normal people who are tired of shit like this.
I think American life is too stressful
maybe someplace with 35 hour work weeks, free health care etc
anyplace with less billz.
>>44 Dumbass,
I am in awe of your superior reasoning. I find your ideas fascinating and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
>>Japan is a liberal, democratic country, with an increasingly globalized culture.
BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, stop it, I can't breathe!
Despite what the Marine colonel in Full Metal Jacket said to Private Joker, it is not now, nor has it ever been the case that "inside every gook is an American trying to get out." Their society is not based on the same ideas as ours is. No two societies are based on the same assumptions. Not even blood-and-soil nationalism, which used to be the universal fundamental basis for all social organizations larger than a single tribe, remains universal in the 21st Century. The Japanese are NOT Americans who speak some crazy moon language. It is a child's mistake to assume that everyone you can see is, despite surface appearances, exactly like you in every other way, right down to viewing the world exactly as you do and seeing you exactly as you see him.
Japan is a culture so different from the US that it is hard to say where to start. They are NOT Yankees in funny hats, any more than Egyptians or Hindus or Brazilians are.
But here's a starting place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debito_Arudou
> inside every gook is an American trying to get out.
Did I say, they were Dumbass?
Do you somehow think that liberal, democratic ideas are unique to America?
Look, I'm sorry I called you a dumbass, I take it back, that wasn't very nice in hindsight.
But about Debito Arudou, I'll agree with any of the Japanese, or gaijin-in-Japan, who say that guy comes off as a trouble-maker. That he pursues his justice with that Onsen is one thing, but he has no business blowing up a private, isolated affair like that out of proportion, and into a career opportunity. I don't really think Arudou has much to do with the greater condition of Japanese immigrants, but he has a right to his activism, and he has his supporters, as well as his critics. Personally, I don't know if the kind of confrontational stance Arudou takes will help foreigners gain acceptance in Japan; it might raise awareness, but probably just annoy more people than anything else.
Japan has relatively few immigrants, and isn't as used to their presence, especially outside of the cosmopolitan areas, as other European ex-empires such as Britain or France.
Besides, I'm talking about the feelings of individual Japanese, across different economic, educational, and political spheres. You're talking about some racialistic, nationalistic, homogenous Japan that I think only the far-right fascists would buy into.

I think he was just being polite and complementing the country of the listener.
>I'm under the impression that 4-ch is composed of three main >groups of people (in order of frequency):
>
> * Closeted Weeaboos & Weeaboo sympathisers
> * Weeaboos
> * Anti-Weeaboo haters
You got that right, I have to say,.
Hmm. Depends...besides, you can hold dual citizenship between japan and canada I believe...
>>54
you can hold dual citizenship between all countries, as long as you don't tell them.
Not for china apparrently.
Not for china apparrently.
Why? How would they know?
There is no cancer. Also, since I am an Asian who practically has no country and whose people are turning into a bunch of ghetto niggers (look up: Hmong), I practically have no country. But that also means I respect and hate everywhere, like America.
Yeah, I think increasingly we'll have young people in the world who don't really feel attached to any nation or specific cultural group, besides that of "global culture". I think this is a good thing; a sign of our interconnected times.
If any of you know this guy, tokyocooney, he makes some pretty neat periodic Vlogs about his experience as a gaijin in Japan. It's pretty straight-forward and even-handed. He also makes these little FYI segments about things like visas and finding jobs/housing. It's worth a look if you're interested.

And no, I am not self-promoting, I've never even met this guy, but I thought his vlogs were pretty good as gaijin vlogs go. And he's kind of funny to boot.
Just travel.
That's what I'm going to do, someday I'm going to travel the world.
I would like to move to Japan and waste my entire life in the amusement arcades for competitive play.
PROTIP: Other than becoming a terrorist, it is extremely hard to get rid of US citizenship. I would say it is much, much harder to get rid of US citizenship than it is to get it. The USA is the only country in the world that still requires you to pay taxes even if you are a US citizen but don't live in the USA.
Also, you can't become japanese other than changing your DNA and becoming japanese. They don't award citizenship for being born in japan, you have to have japanese blood.
Japanese blood?
Theres no such thing, except being Asian.
Don't forget that Asian people weren't the first to settle in Japan.
>>70
I know what you mean, the Japanese descended from Korean a long long time ago, and the previous inhabitants, the Ainu and the Ryukyuans (Jomon), both were pushed out of the Japanese islands.
Number 69 (me) is talking about that you have to have some ancestor who is registered as a japanese citizen on their records sometime before 1700 or something. You and your ancestory can only be traced to Japan on records. You know what I mean.
Actually many non-Japanese have Japanese citizenship, are protected, permanent residents, and can vote.
Like in many countries, Japan goes by the jus sanguinis principle, whereby one of your parents has to be Japanese to be a citizen to be a citizen yourself. France and many European countries have this policy too.
Like most open countries, though, Japan does offer refugee type citizenships, and special circumstances. And then there's standard the naturalisation process. It's quite possible, if you had gaijin parents who naturalised, to be born a citizen in a Japan, even though you, yourself are a gaijin.
And getting rid of your US citizenship is as easy as swapping it for a Japanese one.
Since we're talking of Asian countrys.
I'm of chinese decent, so since I have history there does that mean I could get citizenship?
I guess you'd have to get in line behind all the other Chinese immigrants.
It's be simpler if they just set them all in a Battle Royale-type thing with the Koreans.
The remaining members of whichever ethnicity kills off all the others get citizenship.
>Japan does offer refugee type citizenships, and special circumstances.
very, very, very rare
>And getting rid of your US citizenship is as easy as swapping it for a Japanese one.
keep dreaming
if you try to get rid of your US citizenship, the IRS tries to bust your ass for tax evasion
Sources? Links? Supporting evidence?
Come on, if you're going to bother making contradictory posts, make a decent argument!
why in the world are people hung up on special granted citizenships itt?
just get a work visa thing and stay in country for five years and naturalize like everyone else.
Well, my father used to be Japanese and he said the place was nice and the people there are awesome, but keep in mind he's Asian.
So as far as non Asians go, look at it this way, here in the U.S. you have people who hate Mexican immigrants and then those who are nice to them.
It's the same way in Japan, there are those who don't have negative feelings towards Americans, then there are those who hate Americans.
Xenophobia is very strong with Europeans, I've talked to many and they will judge you by your nationality and place of birth, like the Germans, they have this thing about the Turks.
YOu will get every citezenship in the world.
Only one requierement : You need to be owrth it.
That means mostly, SKILL
