I was lurking around and I happened to come across this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-BTQAylYA8&watch_response

In it is a man telling people to "Be yourself", he explains that theres "some kind of plan" and that people are born a certain way for a reason.
This man is speaking of wapanese (kind of funny if you take a look at his profile), saying that this people need to stop acting Japanese and "be themselves".

Is it just me, or is this completely backwards?

Never did it make since to me when people say "be yourself", do these people actually know what it means to be one's self?

Being yourself, is acting out how you feel, not being what others tell you to.
Why else do Caucasian women dye their hair blonde?
Some guy feels like a German red hed with brown eyes, so he gets brown contacts, dyes his hair red and moves to Germany, hes simply being himself, how he feels inside.

Cultures and various humans aren't a secret club, you're not born Asian or Latino for a reason, thats just how you were born.
You shouldn't act a certain way because you were born a certain race with a certain nationality.
It never has made any sense to me why people feel this way, maybe it's just me, I'm a multiracial person so naturally I am multicultural, but everybody should feel open to exploring cultures.

Try and tell a female to male to stop trying to act male and be herself, see what I mean?

i cant view the video here, but generally if one was to tell young idiots to stop being wapanese and be theirself

they would be calling out against it as when used as a retarded subculture, just like emos

instead of behaving and acting true to themself, they try to get validation by joining into a BS subculture like emo or in this case wapanese, while it really has no basis in reality and means nothing (as emos have no real problems, and the weaboo image of japan has nothing to do with the real thing)

now of course, this isnt always the case, wapanese isnt always a subculture-like thing

also keep in mind that wapanese is not just liking japan, which is fine in itself
