Would someone please explain to me what the hell is wrong with using proper grammar and punctuation? I admit that once in a while I don't capitalize or use apostrophes in IRC, but when I'm typing on a BBS, I always do my best to use my best spelling and grammar.
It doesn't take that long. I retain about 50 WPM while using it, and that suits me just fine. If you're going to take the time to post on half of the boards here, you might as well, because anything typed out in less than two minutes is likely to be shit anyway. This doesn't apply to /sports/, of course (tehe, just kidding 4-ch brothers and sisters).
I'm a teenager, I've been a teenager for almost the majority of my life, and I've been using proper punctuation in my posting since I was 12. Every program I use has a spellcheck plugin, and I always remember to use that, too. My girlfriend, on the other hand, has incredibly erratic (not erotic) capitalization habits, and refuses to use apostrophes and commas altogether... And she's older than me!
Would someone please explain these habits to me? They baffle me, and I'm starting to feel like a troll for repeatedly telling people to use punctuation or gtfo. Thanks in advance.
I agree. These idiots make the entire site look worse.
I have a dumb habit of thinking people aren't as intelligent as they are because they use butchered grammar.
It is sometimes true.
please, tell us more about this girlfriend who has erratic(not erotic) capitalization habits. Please, go into depth about her mammaries and vaginal opening as a start.

These people are either lazy or sheeple. As for me, started learning the Lojban language for the purpose of communicating in The One True Manner(TM). If you do it wrong in Lojban, then you are wrong. There are no short cuts other than the officially sanctioned shortcuts. If you try to butcher the Lojban language, then you would be greatly misunderstood and will be universally derided for butchering it.

It's generally considered bad form to start a sentence with 'and'.
i no people with bad grammer sux
must likely because they are not native English speakers or most likely they are influenced with some internet leetspeaks, abbreviations, and so on....
We'll just blame it on the parents and the American education system.
idk what u are goin on about tbh
idk my bff jill
We share the same thoughts, OP. I've even been told to stop acting elitist just because I use proper English.
The thing is, even though I abhor the use of 'u' and 'ur', I find U (capitalised) acceptable as an abbreviation of 'you'. Maybe it's because 'U' and 'I' seem logical.
I'm not a native speaker and I'm far away from speaking/writing perfect English, but those abbreviations really annoy me.
Really, it doesn't sound cool, guys, it makes you sound like a 12 year old, a retarded 12 year old that is.
I try to keep my sentences short an simple, so iI won't make you many mistakes. And (sorry >>7 ) when I don't know the spelling of a word, I look it up.
>I try to keep my sentences short an simple, so iI won't make you many mistakes.
People who don't reread their own sentences annoy me. It's not like it takes a lot of effort...

You really need a girlfriend.
sometime i re read the post before i posted it, but i don't really care about the grammar though...

Are you suggesting that those with girlfriends are less likely to write correct sentences and thus lead to the downfall of English?

No, I think he/she suggests that internet/BBS = serious business that should not be taken lightly.
In other words, If you get upset over someone typing "wrong" on the internet you should take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself why you fail so much.

Yes, let's all act like fucking children because lol, internet.
LOl oRlY???

Not really any worse than using standard abbreviations, in a colloquial setting. It comes largely from novels, where that usage is pretty common. Semantically speaking, there's not really any ambiguity to it either. In a formal setting like a court statement it might be considered sloppy, but I doubt it matters anywhere else.
I manage to properly use grammar and such while typing. Sometimes when I'm typing in a hurry I'll not bother to use proper punctuation, and I always have proper spelling except for basic typing mistakes when, again, I'm in a hurry and cannot proofread normally. It bothers me when smart people spell words wrong and don't care about it.
