Ah, a hobbies board. First post!
This thread is for all discussion of anything anime-related that AREN'T gundam models. Anime figures, posters, and whatever else. Where are your favorite places to get them? What do you have? What do you want?

2 Name: Enthuiast : 2005-11-21 13:55 ID:o0UtgK+8

I really like the Inu-yasha figures. They're beautiful and I collect them even though I'm only a mild fan.

3 Name: Enthuiast : 2005-11-21 18:17 ID:0rPrNb2K

I have some Gumdan figures... but only 3 or 4.

And also 3 Zoids.

4 Name: Enthuiast : 2005-11-22 05:34 ID:9SPfxGjR

I can't wait for my Eureka 7 figures to arrive. Banzai! Anemone-chan!

Which?
I have one Kagome figure, but it's a cheap $4 capsule toy. Hardly call it "beautiful", I just liked the design of the figure.

I collect bishoujo figures exclusively.
Mostly 1/8 PVC figures of characters from anime or bishoujo games, some smaller ones bundled with manga or anime DVDs, and 2 out of the 5 mecha-musume.
I currently live in Tokyo so buying figures couldn't be easier, but I'm considering moving to North America (preferably Canada) to re-pursue higher education.
How's the availability of anime-related goods in North America?

I just got my Eureka 7 figure in the mail today (the one in >>9), and it's awesome. This is my first figure, so I didn't know what to expect, but it's really well done. Can't even see any imperfections in the paint. If I look close, then mayyybe I can see a few tiny flaws in the plastic, but it's hardly anything. Megahouse really did a good job.

The only criticism I would have is that the back of Eureka's hair seems to be a separate piece that was glued on, so there's a very obvious line right across the top of her head. You can't see it unless you look at it from the top though. And I won't be doing that much since it looks best with the base of the figure at eye level or above.

Anyone know anything about scratchbuilding models from wood/plastic/clay or casting your own resin models?
Otaku no Video got me interested, but all the information I can find on the innernetz pertains specifically to rocketry or sci-fi spaceship models or something like that. I don't know where to start for a figure of a character.
Any information would be greatly appreciated (except that materials for resin casting can get very fucking expensive, I know that much already.)

I just went Super Otaku 4 and decided to to buy as many Shana figures as... well, as I felt like wasting money on.

Currently looking for someplace to buy: http://shanachan.konosutekinabasho.net/sha/src/1138418249856.jpg

As well as a site in the USA to buy Dengeki Daioh from.

34 Name: 774 : 2006-07-10 14:45 ID:Heaven

I ask a qestion.
In America
Also in the United States, is the figure sold in Japan obtained?

The sentence might be strange because it is not so good at English.

>>34

Some stores import from Japan, but a lot of people buy from the Internet. There are Japanese websites foreigners can buy from. (I am Australian, that is how I buy them)

>35

Thanks.
I wont to know how to buy that.
Is there the one obtained only in Japan, too?

I don't understand what you mean, sorry.

But here are some websites. There are more but I don't buy from them.

I collect small (3-5 inches tall) anime figures. Started out with a figure of my favorite character (Shibnobu from Love Hina). Right now I have 7 figures and I plan to order more in the near future.
I mostly choose figures by their looks, it doesn't matter if I haven't seen the anime they're in.
Unfortunately I live in a country where anime is nearly unknown so I only can order anime stuff from the net or buy them on animecons (which aren't frequent and there're only a few sellers out).
In the USA, some big bookshops have manga/anime corners... I wish it would be this easy to buy manga here. :sigh: But there're only 2 or 3 shops, and they're in the capital which I live 150 miles away of.

I love pinky street too! I got 3 more at otakon from hlj for only $6 each. I'm afraid to try making custom pinkys.. but I probably have about 20 pinkys plus some parts I got used.

>>25 Start by sculpting your figure. Use Super Sculpey or Fimo.

http://www.danperezstudios.com/workshoppages/molding_casting.htm

^ I've never actually casted something before, so I don't know how good of a guide this site is. Some people I know that make ball-joint dolls swear by it, though.

46 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2006-08-22 09:31 ID:vus9nl7q

I only have one Pinky Street figure, it's that one of Arc ^^ They are inexpensive, but I'm afraid to get addicted because we all know how quickly such things add up ^_^;

counts Including that, I only have 26 figures (not counting my old zoids, I have 11 of those). I'm slowly expanding my collection, but it will go much faster when my new job starts @_@

I don't wanna steal this guys bandwidth so I'll steal his image then repost it on my photobucket account. This is a page from Sailor Moon Volume Infinity where Naoko Tekeuchi dojinshi's her own manga series. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/Tekrelious/infinity38.jpg

It's a photo taken from her living room as I understand. The pic I got from this guy:
http://mangastyle.net/artbooks.htm

I would seriously sell both your kidneys for this . . . um, would you call it a figure? It's almost like a porcelain statuette.

59 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-03-07 20:59 ID:knVat0dm

I love collecting figurines. I have a bunch of DBZ ones from my younger days, along with tiny statuettes of Pokémon. Ones I've collected more recently are two Naru figurines, one Motoko and one Mutsumi (Love Hina), two Riza and two Winry (FMA), Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Alexander Anderson from Hellsing, Laguna from FFVIII, Cloud and Sephiroth, Sophia from Star Ocean 3, Chii from Chobits, Eonis from Magna Carta and three Ragnarok Online figurines. I buy them at the local anime con that comes around every year. Rarely before or after that.

I'm trying to find a model figure of Mina from Getsumen to Heiki Mina, the anime based from the densha otoko drama. So far I've found the [Mina Tsukishiro PVC EX Figure 18cm SEGA Prize] from
http://www.hobbyfan.com/product_info.php?products_id=4666
But they are sold out of the figure...and ebay doesn't have the one made by sega prize, but they have one that I'd have to paint and assemble myself which I'm considering buying. Is there an online store you guys would recommend that might have this model? I would really appreciate it b/c the sega prize version looks the best. Thanks.

61 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-03-23 05:03 ID:stFYLJwv

i got Bahamut sin, Septhiorth and Cloud with his bike from FF7: Advent children and a Shinigami Ryuk figure from Death Note.

62 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-06-04 03:31 ID:zHqVEKQZ

I've recently become OBSESSED with collecting anime figures. I never look for anything specific though, I usually browse ebay and the local comic stores. If I find something I like, I buy it, wether I'm familiar with the anime/game it's from or not. Just the other day I bought two Togainu No Chi figures; Akira and Shiki. I had heard of Togainu No Chi a long time ago, but it wasn't until after I bought the figures that I really knew anything about the game they came from. In fact...my entire collection is composed of figures from animes and games that I've never watched/played.

>>59 You have a magna carta figurine? I'm jealous XD

Woah! Where do you keep them? I've got a few and they're in pretty bad condition.. left to gather dust on a shelf.. not to mention figure droop which I should get around to fixing. (hairdryer+cold water?)

Note: meant to write "somewhere" instead of someone lol in the end.

I keep the majority of my DBZ collection on the very top of my larger bookshelf. I took about 2 hours one day setting them all up there perfectly. I've collected almost every single one since one of the first series came out. (not the BanDai figures though). They are all the 5 to 6 inch figures, (or less if we're talking kid trunks, etc.) Bigger ones from other series are kept on the sides. The space in which they are kept is about 3 1/2 feet long horizontally, and about 1 foot wide. I have others though that are of less quality, or different versions of the ones on display in my room, that I keep in a drawer.

I have 4 Bleach figures, they reside on my dresser in between collectible soundtracks from Final Fantasy on display in my room.

Also, what I am most proud of, is my Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Square Arts and Play Arts collections. I am only missing Reno, Kadaj, Selphie, and Balthier. They are kept on the top of one of my other bookshelves in here. ^_^
Also I misposted that number. Its actually more close to being between 100-120 i'd say.

-H.K.
