[Anime] Mobile Suit Models!!! [Otaku] (41)

1 Name: Enthuiast : 2005-11-22 07:27 ID:8zpTeijp

this thread is open to all discussion of mobile suit models. Whether it be Gundam, Evangelion, Full Metal Panic, or whatever else. Which do you have, how do you build them, what's your favorite, what do you want, tips, where do you get them, whatever is helpful or interesting to other fans.

Currently, my best model is just a HG 1/100 Zaku II. I'm actually a beginner at building models. I've also build a 1/144 Deathscythe, a 1/144 RX-78 NT-1, a 1/144 Epyon, and a 1/100 RMS-099 Rick Dias.

I'm looking at a version of the RX-78 in 1/100 for my next model.

PG 1/60 models are far too expensive...

My first kit was the 1/100 HG Astray Red frame
Then i moved on to the MG MS-06s zaku II(for those non otaku thats char zaku). I's not done yet , still got one leg left.
And then i have a 1/100 MG RX-78-2 gundam ver oyw coming to me in the mail.

For those building HG and thinking about moving to MG , it's really not that much of a change.
You just got much better detail and a inner skeleton(wich you put the armor on)

Wow got my RX-78-2 today :D

5 Name: Enthusiast : 2005-11-29 23:26 ID:bPzDzSwn

I ordered RX-78-2 and Char's ZakuIIS from Amazon today.

It's horribly ironic that they decided to bring the prices back up when I was ready to order... I couldn't afford to get a Kampfer too. Although, I'm glad to be able to get MGs at $10-20, even if they are older ones.

A few sites for Gundam modelers:

http://www.dannychoo.com/
Nice pictures of all kinds of Gundams, and some neat mods (like making a PG Mk. II run on AC power instead of batteries). Although some of the advice about building runs counter to what I've read elsewhere.

http://www.fichtenfoo.com/02GiantRobots/02c-MGHowTo.html
Pretty big how-to. Lots of detail about every step of the process.

http://www.gamerabaenre.com/flashremoval.htm
Flash removal tutorial. As a beginner, I found this very helpful and I'm sure my RX-78 would look a lot worse if I hadn't read it.

After this shot I put the shield and rifle on its back so I don't have to store them separately... :D

Here are the some of MG/full scratch kits...

Well the newest MG's like RX-78-2 oyw and mk2 can do that , they are quite good.
But then again PG IS PG!

9 Name: dj898 : 2005-12-22 02:32 ID:5WVt6dCP

well that is true though for the sheer volume it can't beat 1/60 scale... :p it fills one shelf of cabinet completely...

don't think Amazon ship overseas do they? :(

I like MG more than PG mainly because they're smaller. Bigger may be better with toys, but I don't think it's the same for models.

>>13 ?

Anyways, >>1, is non-Gundam stuff okay in this thread? You mentioned other series, but Mobile Suit is pretty Gundam specific.

So are there actually any FMP plastic models? I can't say I really like the show, but the Arbalest is pretty hot.

Other series is welcome to.
I want a FMP kit now , some are out but i think they where quite bad.
Bad is in looks good if you are a master painter , and looks like crap if you can just about paint. And is not even worth it if you don't paint.

I just got Kotobukiya's 1/144 Huckebein Mk. III (from Super Robot Wars) kit. It's a thing of beauty.

I'm jealous :(

How are you going to paint it?

18 Name: Enthusiast : 2006-01-22 08:39 ID:Heaven

I'm a modeling noob. I've built a few MSG models, but never been able to paint them. After looking at a friend's collection, I've decided to get into painting. Does anyone know any good links to help me? I'm not looking to do MG/PG, I'll probably start off with 1/144 scale.

Im been doing Models off and on and still a noob at it. The only thing thats been holding back from becoming an Big fan at it is that I can't find anyplace near me that sells them and the ones online is too much (I hate being poor.

Hey modelers, question: does anyone know if the Aestivalis kit at http://cgi.ebay.com/Bandai-1-48-Nadesico-powersuit-Aestivalis-battle-frame_W0QQitemZ6056426587QQcategoryZ1193QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem is a snap-together kit or if it requires glue?

Also... does anyone know if there are now or have ever been Full Metal Panic mecha kits? The Kaname and Tessa ones are all well and dandy, but I want to build an Arbalest or a Codarl.

27 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2006-05-21 08:23 ID:Tt5GYtKv

Price and grading system imply that it's snap, but you might not care by now.

Seller said it was a glue kit. As soon as I can work with the stuff (I'll probably do a cheap plane or car kit to learn how to cement properly) it's up there.

I went to Elizabeth Center in NYC to score the 1/100 Aile Strike the other week. I scored a coupon on a basic set of Testors paints. They'll hold over until I can get some Tamiya paint.

Which leads me to my current question: I want to get some Tamiya Basic Putty and a few bottles of paint. What's a good, reliable online seller with decent prices that won't choke me on shipping? All the Ebay sellers are from HK and charge an arm and a leg to ship.

29 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2006-07-06 05:51 ID:5WVt6dCP

if you have local railway model shop check out as they usually carry Tamiya putty and other cheaper variants...

30 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-01-11 04:26 ID:Ey79Qp1J

i wanna get the PG 1/60 Strike Gundam but its soooo expensive (´д`;)

32 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-02-20 02:33 ID:Z4qPegpO

Where would a veteran recommend I paint my model pieces, if I'm living in a cramped living space i.e. university dorm?

Will I have to resort to putting it on a piece of cardboard and doing it outside?

Anyone into SRW series Gunpla though?

35 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-11-28 19:02 ID:HAA6+Fh1

I'm just getting into Gunpla seriously now. I built a couple when I was a tween, but now I'm gonna take it seriously.

So, I bought the OYW RX-78-2. I'm still waiting for my Gundam markers to come in.

36 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2008-04-03 15:01 ID:P/UMZ7il

37 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2008-05-28 14:00 ID:kf7izaiv

I never built one but I want to really import one...
which one is good for beginners?
I heard that there are ones you only have to stick together withouth glueing and painting...
cna somebody probide links? I'd love to build a Zaku II

38 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2008-06-10 05:16 ID:pkerZDXQ

I just started Gunpla November last year, and I currently have:
1/144 HG Gundam Exia
1/144 HG Strike Freedom
1/100 HG Force Impulse
1/100 MG Zeta Plus A1
1/100 MG Aile Strike (just gotta love that inner frame)

BTW, can anyone tell me whether the RX-0 Unicorn Ver. Ka (MG) is any good? I'm planning to buy soon...

39 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2008-10-07 07:46 ID:Pl4ZWtWQ

First model was a PG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, transformable and limited edition.
Second is gonna be an unicorn model.

with this hands of mine.

>what's your favorite,

Buster Gundam, since I modified it to the extreme.

>what do you want,

Kampfer and some more UC models.

>tips,

Throw away the boxes or cut them and place them in an album or folder. Those boxes really taking up place if you are not a neat person.

41 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2009-07-20 05:54 ID:XBHWZ/sY

Which do have?
Too, many.

Started with the Wing Gundam 1/144 models and got all of them,
X Gundam,
LOBooster,(idk what that's from. I just call it the lobster guncam cuz it's got claws)
All HG Gundam Wing Endless Waltz,
the 1/100 Wing Gundam and Nataku,

After my Wing Gundam craze, i got into UC era
HG 1/144 GP01
and an old school 1/144 GP03s

First MG
RX-178 Mk II and tried painting it and failed (hard)
RX-78NT-1 Alex
RX-79[G]
MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom
RX-78-2 Gundam Ver 2.0
RX-78-5 Gundam G05

took a 4 year break
Just completed God Gundam

Pending MG:
MSZ-006A1 Zeta Plus
MSZ-006A1 Zaku II
RGM-79C GM Kai
GAT-X105E Strike Noir
RX-93 "Nu" Gundam
1/60 Exia Gundam

PG Wing Gundam Zero Custom

Favorite:
RX-79[G] ATM, though it's falling apart.
What do I want:
MG RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis"
MG Wing Gundam Kai
PG GP01/fb
Tip: Save instruction manuals, cuz you never know when you need to look back or give friends some advice.
Start small, like on a 1/144 model if your just starting. If you have done models before, you can ignore this. Small one you can mess up and it's no big deal. Mess up on a MG or PG, and your crying.
Get a Gundam Pen or Micron .05mm pen to ink in the lines, makes it look infinitely better.
>>40 Counter tip: save boxes. IF your like me and have VERY limited space on shelves or what not, you can put your models away. Sadly he is right though, they do take up a tone of space.
