Sorry, couldn't resist. I take it you are talking about sitting meditation? I think its good. It's very hard at first, but after a few weeks of doing it every day you get the hang of it and can slip into that mode of thought a lot easier. I don't think I could ever get anywhere near nirvana with it. I'll leave that to monks. One thing I'd like to try is meditation upon an unanswerable question; but you really need a dedicated teacher for that which I don't have. So basically what I do is sit there and focus on breathing; if a thought comes into my head I acknowledge it but try not to grasp at it.
I appreciate the anti-dogmatic aspect of Zen.
Philosophical Taoism and it's basic principles are also high in my mind, mostly because they reflect how I already feel.
