People who get all super offended if you mispronounce something. I was speaking to someone else who doesn't speak the language, and so in the interests of making sure the person new what I was talking about, I mispronounced it so it sounded like it was written.
Anyway, the person next to me got pissed, like I'm an idiot in the language. I'm not great, but I know a thing or two, and I suspect there are areas I know things they don't. After all, we learned at different schools, w/ diff teachers. Anyway they get like that. I'm not anal about it, I want to learn to speak it, not be the languages defender against corruption. Besides, she butchers a name from my culture on a daily basis, and I don't get on her case over it... It's a simple Spanish name. It's not that hard to read.
And the problem is, they're the only person I know whom I can practice with. orz
Some people are just sensitive if you pronounce things wrong, however in truth if you pronounce something wrong and your not a native speaker of that language then they would usually understand and not get in your face about it. Actually, they would probably get the general point in what you were trying to pronounce and not care to bother with it...if they are sensitive to someone pronouncing it wrong then i guess thats there problem.
You have a point. This person is also a non-native speaker, so they might be overcompensating.
I listen to people butcher the language of mi gente all the time. I don't get up in arms about it. I mean, I flinch, but I generally don't get angry or annoyed. In this case I started to get annoyed, but there are some contributing issues there. Oh well, It is what it is.
Thanks though.
