Ultimately, if you breathe through your nose, good for you. If you pull back, breathe, and kiss again, that's good too. The only thing that matters in the end is that your partner keeps kissing back. If they keep kissing back and enjoying it, then there's no such thing as dragging it on too long. :D

I would wait until the significant other is ready. As I am a guy, I can give info on the "fairer sex". If she's cuddling up to you, you're good to go.
