I being the lonely engineering student, will probably be busting my ass solving systems of equations with 11 equations and 11 unknowns, all involving current and voltage in ciruitry, and it gets worse when you use more complicated things like capacitors and inductors since they involved differential equations....oops, point being I'll be busting butt doing homework.

I suppose it will be like last year, aware that it is Valentines Day but not really caring since there is plenty of shit to do rather than spend my time moping about it. Video games, anime, school, work, club activities, sports.....

11 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-02-12 18:29 ID:4Zo+GRyz

I'm going to present a box of chocolates to a girl who's twice said she loved me in the past week. She was sort of joking or being hyperbolic, but you don't exactly say "I love you" to just acquaintances.

I've been pacing back and forth for over a day trying to figure out how to best present them to her. Do I hide them in her locker? Do I meet her in the front lobby of the school? Do I kiss her? (oh, that's evil)

12 Name: Doku Otoko : 2006-02-12 20:54 ID:HYIj2o8S

For me, I've went to the glass shop in my school and taught himself how to make a glass rose for 3+ hours during breaks and after school. I'm planning to hand that rose to a guy who I'm really interested in.

three girls have told me i'm cute in the last week... unfortunately they're much too young for me (12 and 14 years old) ;_;

so i'm probably gonna be spending valentines day alone, as usual...

15 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-02-12 21:23 ID:cEOQFtKP

girls have told you that you are cute?! damn, girls have never told me that regardless of their age. im sure you can guess what im doing on valentine's day.

16 Name: Everyday is like Sunday : 2006-02-12 22:06 ID:+nfgT/+t

not really anything. Valentines Day lands on a school day, me and my girlfriend go to two different schools, and we cant see each other after school either, because she's enrolled in all College Prep and Pre-Advanced Placement classes, thus she has a shit load of homework. We're spending this whole weekend together though.Valentines Day is also gonna be my 15th b-day.

So, in short, my plans are, buy some books, read them, and listen to Morrissey and talk to my lady.

Today she threw it around as a joke, and for a moment I felt a huge cloud of dread on the horizon. But then she turned directly to me and said "I love you even more" and I didn't catch the rest of the sentence but I don't think it matters.

I won't get anywhere by sitting at home moping on Valentine's Day.

People always say they love this or that, but I think they mean to say "like", but since love is such a cheap word now it means almost the same thing.

Valentine's day is not even about love, men do not really care that much and for women it is free diamonds and chocolate. For everyone else, it is a horrible reminder that you are alone.

Hahahhgghhgf.
I gave her the present and she said thank you.
She neither kissed me nor rejected me. I got so confused about this that she exchanged some words and left.
It was idiocy on my own part-- we're just friends, and we have been simply friends for 3 years. Giving chocolates to each other is a normal thing that you would do for a friend on Valentine's Day.
The thing I can't believe though, is that she was so clueless that she never realized what I had been thinking, even though I was trembling, etc. She's a really intelligent person, but I guess book smarts don't give you any experience with the passions of love.

It would have been nice to have a boyfriend or at least a love interest during this time. I always thought it would be sweet to make candies from scratch to give to someone special, but there isn't anyone I care enough about to do that for.

I will have fun without love though. I will buy the fancy cherry flavored cigarettes and some good rum. I will have my best single guy friend come over and we can get nice and sauced. My Mom only allows me to drink heavily on holidays and funerals, so I am going to take full advantage.

This Valentines day I'd like to sit at home and play on my GameCube and work on C++. But I'll be in uni working on a project I really don't care about. At least I'm forced to go outside and communicate with people. That's not always so bad.

58 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-06 10:31 ID:/AFcVTh+

ive just started seeing a girl and im not sure what we're doing about valentines... im going down there this wkend but we havent spoken specifically about it/getting presents... i dont want to really do something overboard cus i still dont really know much about her...

so i was thinking: make her a card? and also i was gonna maybe burn a mix CD for her - not love love songs, just songs that make me happy and/or think about her without being oversentimental. also she wants me to give her a massage so she knows im bringing massage oils, but i was thinking also bringing lots of scented candles and a good chill-out CD? what does everyone think of these ideas? remember, i dont want it to be like "omg i love you" but more like "i like you and want to spend more time getting to know you" sorta thing. also, its her birthday in a few weeks anyway so i still need some present ideas for that haha

59 Name: fart man : 2007-02-06 15:15 ID:ew9/8i1w

>>58
i think an oil massage would be a great idea. she will be almost naked right? dont worry about chill out CDs. u know what will happen while giving her the massage? have a great time!

60 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-06 18:33 ID:uoilMyRD

>>54
I guess you can put it that way. Of someone specially caring about you would perhaps be a little more accurate, but you get the idea. And no, it's not like an everyday gift; because "this is the day everyone around the world do it", so it is special. To make a parallel - taking resolutions on January 1st is "more important" than a resolution taken randomly around the year. Because that day, many people do it.

I'm not saying that it's like being a dumb sheep. It's all about symbols and how powerful you think they are. Of course a gift from you to yourself is enjoyable; but it would be totally void from any feelings from another person. Which is more or less what Valentine's day is all about.

61 Name: fart man : 2007-02-06 18:52 ID:ew9/8i1w

>>60
ummm, interesting point. probably u r right. to me, valentines day was just a strange day, u know, because pple often exchange presents, so why lots pple r excited about the day.

well, so, what about giving a small present to a friend, classmate, or coworkers of different sex? u might not get anything in return, but who cares? he/she will be happy, and that would be the best return.

62 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-06 19:16 ID:/AFcVTh+

>>59
yeah the massage is going to lead on im sure ;) the chillout cd was just something to put on to help relax... ive kinda gone off the idea of making an actual personal mix cd, would the massage (and what comes after...) be a gd enough present for some1 ive only been seeing for a month? im gonna get lots of candles tho, so itll make it more "special" for her i suppose.

main thing is i dont want to be too overthetop in terms of something that would only be done in a relationship thats been going for long... but equally i think i should do something for her even if we havent said anything about it and its for this wkend rather than the day itself. whats peoples thoughts on the card? i was thinking of making one myself, just get some card and do it like a sorta collage thing of coloured paper/card as like a bunch of roses or something like that. or should i just try and find a good card in a shop?

63 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-06 21:51 ID:mKxKdedO

oh man, this year this guy is going to dump his girlfriend in public on valentine’s day. apparently she cheated on him and he is pissed. so he told her that on valentine's day he will publicly announce his love for her(she thinks he doesnt know about her infidelities ), but really dump her in front of a large crowd and then post it on youtube. my neighbor is in the same frat and says it is no bullshit, but i still have my doubts.

but the guy created a facebook event and if one of your friends joins it you will know about it, and since so many people joined the group it is quite possible she found out about it.

but if this is real and he is able to keep it a secret for a week, the guy will be a legend on campus.

Not to brag, but I think its amusing I posted on this last year. This is the first year of my entire life (I'm 21) that I will not be celebrating SAD day (Singles Awareness Day). And its with my fiancee. I got her some choclate and some roses, and some other cool goodies, and I'm gonna take her out. So yeah....good luck to all you guys out there! Think you're gonna be single the rest of your life? Be more optimistic...it happened to me, no reason why it can't happen to you.

I've got my typical fare lined up. Wake up, go to work, come home, sit in front of the PC and play Unreal Tournament 2004 until I fall asleep. Same as every year, pretty much. This'll be my 27th SAD.
...and no, nobody I'm currently interested in, so my options are somewhat limited on that front. =\

This is my 24th consecutive SAD, not that I give a flying rats ass about neither valentines nor SAD. I'm 24. I guess if I showed a little balls I could snag myself a cute little girl with ease, because after all I'm intelligent, handsome and nice(except on 4-ch). The problem is that I'm chicken shit.

It really sucks because I know what I should do so no good advice will ever jump up and bite me, I don't listen to myself, nor others. Heck, cute girls have been chasing me and made open advances on me, even though I seem like a scary motherfucker so most don't even dare to talk to me. I just don't ever aknowledge them, sometimes I even avoid them, even if I'm actually interested in the girl putting out signals/advances. I don't know why I do this, and I always regret it later.

One time I was even mistaken for a closet fag because I seem so disinterested in the opposite sex, even though I have no serious problem interacting with it on friendly terms.

I really want a girlfriend though. It's all so retarded....

78 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-13 22:30 ID:T2yzUUTQ

I sure wish an advice could do my work for me, but the only thing that's missing is my own initiative.

I just really want it to be right, so I won't haphazardly take someone just for the sake of getting a girlfriend. I do after all have the ambition that the one I get together with will be the one I die with.

Also I want it to be a nice girl. Most girls are so cocky, snotty and bitchy, they do nothing but talk shit and are utterly superficial. It disgusts me.

  2. Join a conservative church and shop around.
  3. Don't be put down by age difference so much.
  4. ???
  5. Profit

Seriously, if the girl is at least 15, I don't think it's a big deal if there is a 10 year age difference or something. I'd have no problem getting with a girl that age.

84 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-14 01:37 ID:SIeL3QmX

Oh and on a sidenote I'd really like it if my girl -whenever and if ever I find her- is also a virgin. But it's a minor matter in my eyes because she will probably be stuffed with impressions and messed up expectations/ideas anyway. Fucking TV/Magazines, all this sexual exponation totally ruin peoples minds. It would have been so much better if people had no previous knowledge of sex once they got together.

I mean think about it, what could be termed a failiure? There would be no expectations let down, no ideas or presumptions twarted. The first encounter would set new hights of enjoyment and pleasure regardless of wether it would be seen as a failiure in the eyes of the enlightened. And from there on things would only get better. Also, neither party would have any preferences regarding sexual interaction that would possibly be let down. Instead, they would aquire their preferences from their partner, as they together start to explore unchartered territory. In short, there would have been much to gain from having been ignorant about sex.

Thats why I'd like my girl to be a virgin.

I myself have never celebrated Valentine's Day, even when I've been in a relationship- even a 3.5 year relationship. It's so fucking saccarhine and empty. There's no sensuality to Valentine's Day, so I (and most of the women I've dated) loathe it as an empty Hallmark holiday.

Bleh, Valentine's Day is a fucking worthless holiday made up by the capitalist conspiracy to sell cards and other junk. Personally, I celebrate Singles Awareness Day. Nothing like spending another lonely day with my friends Jack Daniels and Stolichnaya.

Here's an idea for a non-commercial Valentine's Day celebration. Turn off the heat in your house. Take a nap together on the couch under a thick blanket. When you wake up you'll be a pair of toasty cinnamon buns and it'll feel so freezing outside the blanket you'll want to keep snuggling. 'Course, that only works in northern regions.

Yea, I always try to do that. Had some bad experience with that myself. Thats why while I draw the line by 3 years, I usually try for one year younger or less. First girlfriend was younger than me by 2 years, I found out how immature she was later on(It may have been an internet relationship, But I'm glad it was because I probably would have done somethings I would have regretted if it wasn't.), Then I met another girl who was around my age, and I realized the big difference in maturity. It may not have worked out well with that girl around my age, but we are still very good friends. So I tend to stick close to girls that are closer to my own age or older. That, and I tend to stay the hell away from girls that are emo like or have baggage of some kind.

Think about what you just said. ..No really. Do it.
1) Look at history. Ignorance is not a good thing. Learn from the past, 'mmkay?
2) Woo, undesired pregnancies galore!

Although I do not like the other kind of ignorance that's promoted by TV/Magazines, I seriously do not think that not knowing anything about sex before the first time/marriage is a good thing.

Before I had sex in my current relationship, I wasn't a virgin, but my partner was. Nobody felt let down by the experience, no ideas or presumptions were twarted. There is a huge difference between a realistical view on sex, and the media-based impression of sex. I'm very happy in my relationship, sexually as well, and so is my partner.

That can be a horrible, or a good thing. The same as having had sex before: it can be a good or horrible thing. What matters is how aware you two are, and how good both of you are at not being idiots.
I.e. TALK and don't bloody assume too much. Assumptions aplenty are very bad. As long as neither of you treat each other like your gender ("hey, all guys/girls have to like this, right? The magazine/my ex said so"), but instead as a new person who may or may not like those things, it'll go well regarless of if you two are virgins or not.

There is a difference between a clinic education about the science of our reproductive procedures and their effects, and a wholesale sex-fest. It's not even the same thing and I think you know which thing I'm turning against. We might need to be informed that intercourse may lead to pregnancies, but we do not need to be informed about how to sechs. It's a fucking natural instinct for starters, it kicks of automatically. And it's a fact, the more we know, the more we want, the more miserable we are. It. Is. A. FACT. I'm glad YOUR sexlife is working out, but most people are miserable about this, and with greater longing due to expectations and fading ability to meet the requirements for their basis of happiness, they get desperate and stupid, and wander of into the dark alleys of our collective, sexual awareness.

It's not exactly a coincidence that sexual crimes and sick sexual habits/orientations have skyrocketed since a liberal outlook on our sexuality landed. Or maybe you think it is?

However, I did after all, say it's no use anyway seeing how the world is, I was merely stating an ideal.

However, the way she reacted and how it all went down, makes me believe that it was staged, hell the Student television network is going to show it.
But I couldn't hear a damn thing, I only was able to see her face. During the song she had a "wtf" look, and during the arguement, she didn't look that upset/pissed. So I am waiting for it to be posted online somewhere so I be certain of exactly happened.

Actually, sexual crimes and sick habits/orientations became less in our educated, liberal society, it only appears to "spread" because now people talk about it, there's media coverage and people don't do it with shame and guilt in backdoor alleys like in the past.

It just so happens that our the liberal outlook on sexuality is nothing new, in fact western views on sexuality and gender roles have undergone a liberalization that started in the middle ages. The truth is that "strange" sexual fetishes and practices are nothing new at all, in fact the oldest set of laws available, Hammurabi's Code from ancient Babylon, has plenty of laws for deviant sexual behavior such as many different forms of bestiality, homosexuality, and incest.
The correlation you are noticing is more accurately connected to the rise of higher populations and information technology. There are more people now, which statistically increases the number of sexually deviant people, and information technology combined with high density urban living has allowed them to communicate with one and other, and has made accessing information about them much easier and more likely through out the course of a persons ever increasing lifespan.
Not to mention a more complex society will give rise to new types of sexual fetishes that are connected with the modern world. Good examples would be things like uniforms (nurse, school, cop)because they are connected to permenant fixtures in daily life that repeat themselves (all cops, nurses, students are seen on a daily basis on tv or in real life).
You couldn't have such a wide variety of sexual deviancy in the good ol' days because there was less available things to develop fetishes before that would impact a person their entire lives. (see how it comes back to technology, dense urban living, and higher populations?). But we do know that they DID have sexual deviancy in all historical ages, however it followed the same patterns that ours do now; people must first have constant contact with these fetish concepts in a non-sexualized nature before they can develop. Which is why the historical era's sexual deviancy relies much on the historical context of the era. For example bestiality and incest in isolaeted large family agrarian villages. As opposed to the growing variety of lingeries used by the olde school rich.

In conclusion; it is incorrect to point the finger at recent liberal trends because western history for the last thousand or more years has been a giant liberalization process that is anything but recent, however the trends of sexuality tend to spike in "deviancy" or more accurately "variety" when logistical factors favor them such with higher populations, information technology, and dense urban living.

Yeah, thats why modern society can't afford a liberal outlook on sexuality. We need to know the possible effects of intercourse, but we shouldn't be fed with sexually suggestive material, especially not of dubious nature.

Also modern society promotes deviant sexuality largely because it takes humans away from the natural order of things. We have unnatural upbringings in unnatural environments, being exposed to and expected to live in unnatural ways. It's no wonder our sexuality also turns unnatural. Homosexuality within the human race for example is closely tied to far-advanced civilisations, as opposed to naturalistic peoples where it's generally frowned upon.

We are used to our way of life and see nothing strikingly wrong about it, but nonetheless it doesn't exactly give us good growing grounds for a healthy mind. People heve never been so rich in both knowledge and material possessions as we are, yet we top the charts in misery. The suicide statistics are startingly higher in the west than anywhere else. Basically the poorer the country the less suicides. Seems like natural suffering and strife makes us mentally healthy and resilient, but here we are instead exposed to bizarre conditions, values and expectations, which makes our minds a maze of unnatural thought-patterns. It's readily obvious in how we, in spite of our infinate knowledge and good sense still cannot help ourselves to battle our own mental ailments, we are forced to stuff ourselves with pills or to flee our situation instead. More and more people opt to suicide though, because their mental foundations get so fucked up from the start, they can't find sanity mind no matter how hard they dig.

But ofcourse, we could then argue that I'm simply schizofrenic and don't have a saying in this thing. I just listen to too much angry music like SOAD and have basketcases for friends.

Careful there, there are animals who have homosexual relations and primate proto-societies have in fact endorsed double standards of allowing leaders homosexual relations and preventing heterosexual relations of others. (Yes I do have a source on this, but I'll have to make a trip to library next time its open with all this shitty weather over here to properly cite it).

Something has got to give; either our unnatural environments will be destroyed, or our natural upbringings will have to change and adapt to these new highly unnatural societies. Until then we will be doomed to some very messed up people where it counts. (as in people who turn to self destructive or misanthropic methods, not as in stable people with slightly odd lifestyle choices)

>>114

Yeah, there are animals and some primates are doing the crazy thing all day long but they are different spieces. Not all primates and/or other spieces of mamals or whatever have homosexual behaviours, and when they do it's often asexual and has other purposes than sexual stimulation. Humans didn't develop homosexual behaviour until civilisation. I'm afraid thats more or less a fact, until some archeologist finds a gay-sechs figurine made out of limestone in central africa, dating about 50.000 BC.

Also, it's worth noting that more liberal European countries like Amsterdam have a much lower rate of unwanted pregnancies and STDs than the US (per capita), and sex isn't as frowned upon as it is here in the States.

117 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-02-15 00:57 ID:SIeL3QmX

>>116

"European countries like Amsterdam" LOL!

Thats because in Amsterdam people are too busy getting high on grass to get laid.

Seriously, just because people use preventives, condoms and commit to abortions without remorse doesn't mean they have healthy sexual habits. You're kind of ignoring the psychological risks here, focusing on the physical ones. But the physical risks aren't nearly as alarming as the psychological ones. A physically disabled individual is a burden to a limited amount of people, a mentally disabled individual bears the potential to not only burden but also harm countless.

I want to draw a paralell to Nazi germany. The german people at that time were no different from anyone of us, but they were going through psychologically challenging times which put their common sense out of order. See the problem with us humans is that no matter how smart we are, our emotions will after breaching a sertain threshold, put our morals out of order and cause us to act according to emotions instead. And God help us if our emotions then are embedded in some kind of sick mental structure, and thats exactly what happened in Nazi germany: The people were fed with lies, sick ideals and ideas, pleading to their rampant emotional cravings for social security and human dignity.

Now, malinformation is being fed into us through our desperate need for sexual satisfaction, a desperation highly increased by the intense exposure to sex and theory concerning sexual practice we recieve already from early years. Through this we are being taught uncompromising tolerance towards sertain things, while we at the same time develop zero tolerance towards anything that challanges this, even if it rightly does.

We are being brainwashed on a grand fucking scale, and regrettably it's tied to something we can't possibly rise to battle because it's too important to us. The worst thing is that this brainwashing isn't some evil sheme orchestrated by a demonic group of people or something, it's just the way things have turned out. In the name of our constant strife to enrichen our lifes, and our ever-present lack of true compassion or love, both for ourselves and others. So we can't really fight this because it's up to each individual to first fight him/herself, and we know everyone will never do this. Because we don't love ourselves, we only struggle to feed our desires. Thats instinct, not love. Our brains turned our instincts into our worst enemy. It's so fucking hilarious.

I would say that the gerneral popluation is brainwashed. What contributes to it is the media obsession that people seem to have. Well I've been looking at this all day so I guess I might as well reply.

My V-Day was... snowy. Hailed all day so I didn't go out. Not seeing anyone, but there's someone I'm interested in. Known him for over a year, though he lives a few states away. Sent him some drawings, home-made V-card, and a letter of loveness. Frankly, the results were good. Though he's still pondering relationshipness. Don't mind, I'm not too wild about folks here anyway.

But yeah. While V-Day was chocolateless and spent mostly dueling online (...eheh) the two days before it had many lovely phone conversations and other phone-things... <3

So, whoot. Happiness, despite my occassional "I'm such a dork" feeling.

Seriously, St. Valentine has as little to do with the modern V-day as Baby Jesus has with Christmas. Use it to suit your purpose, you don't have to follow some sort of pre-conceived notion about how it is to be celebrated, you don't even have to celebrate it at all. "Official" holidays just usually are very handy excuse for doing fun stuff.
