The woman I am deeply in love with, who is also deeply in love with me, is a heavy caffeine user. She take's 2 or 3 caffeine pills just for fun I guess and drinks a lot of espressos all the time. Now I know caffeine isn't all that bad, but it worries me. She can develop problems later in life because of it. I don't use any caffeinated substances(unless it's soda or something that i just like to drink), because I am not affected by caffeine at all. She says it helps her be more alert and whatnot.
So am I just being stupid for worrying?
Probably. What's the worst that could happen?
Your friendly neighborhood med student here.
First strike: kidneys. Caffeine intake inhibits ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) secretion, meaning that the urine is more dilute because water is not being reabsorbed as well in the kidneys. Can lead to dehydration.
Second strike: brain. The human brain cannot tolerate sustained stimulant use. In other words, you can only max it out for so long before burnout starts, and burnout is ugly.
That's about all I've got.
at least it's not speed.
let her be
At least caffeinated sex it's not all that bad.
Well if you worry about her health then you should have a nice talk with her. Let her know that it could be dangerous for her to consume too much caffeine (Do some reasearch but it's obviously dangerous for one person to overdose on things).
Also tell her that you care for her and love her so you do not want her health to be in danger.
Good luck! -Kira

Seconded
Replace caffeine with "Gay San Francisco Pron", and it's still not so bad.
I used to drink espresso's and very strong filter coffee all the time.
I've gone cold turkey for a while and since i started i know now that yes, the caffeine did make me more alert, but it also kept me on edge.
The other thing is, when people get into a habit with anything it's often the action, the doing, the noticing that it's been a while since the last dose, that keeps them doing it, it's a comfort thing i guess. If you're worried about the amount of caffeine, maybe you could suggest having some of the coffee as decaf, i'm sure that because she'll still have the habit of drinking coffee all the time, she won't have a problem.
Thing is, like said above, prolonged use of any stimulant is no good, and the more high strength caffeine drinks she has, the worse her crashes once it lowers in her system will be. She'll already be feeling those, whether she realises or not, and that goes against the idea of it always keeping alert.
Well thanks guys, I've talked to her and shes been cutting down.
Glad for you :)
Next time, just remember to talk to her in the first place...
You could ask her to cut the caffeine pills, i doubt she has an authentic reason to use those.
Expressos are okay though.
