So I have met this chick at school (college) and we've been hanging out. I am starting to develop feelings for her and I'd like to ask her on a date. I know she's been dating (nothing serious) since school started. I wouldn't know how to ask her because I don't know how she feels about going on a date with a shorter man. She's around 5'9", I think. And I am 5'6". I am not usually blinded by my height but I've never been into a girl that much taller than me. I think she'd feel a lot more self conscious about it than I would. Also, I would like to do this before fall into the pits of the friend zone.

I know several cases of couples where the women are taller than the men,... Both the woman and the guy need to be ok with it, and then it works.
I guess unless she made it a principle to only go out with men taller than herself, it will just make things a little bit harder for you, but that's not a reason not to try, you have nothing to lose.

Well, I thought I'd just give it a try. IF she says no, that's alright, I'll move on. But the other day we were hanging out with one of her friends she brought along. She got a call and afterward she said that there's this guy that likes her but he's short. She said "I don't know, it's kind of weird." I don't know if I should try anyway or wait a little and show her that I am more than just my height. But in waiting I might take too long and get the "you're just a friend" speech.
Well,... looks like you definitely should not delay things. She's apprehensive (which is a common prejudice), but at the same time she's still open to the issue. So you should just rush in and show her that she has a lot to gain from being with you ^_^
OP here. Friend-zoned. Again.
Too bad, but that's life. Play again ^_^
Dump her ASAP..as friends, being a friend you will only see her with other assholes and she will start to talk about love with you:s
