In my honest opinion it probably isn't best to assume things off the bat. I don't want you to get your hopes up and then be sad if it does not work out. :(

I don't want you to lose hope completely though. Try talking with her sometime. Which... is, of course, easier said than done. I'm socially awkward too. Maybe there'll be a chance like... your teacher will pair the two of you up for an assignment, or maybe...

Oh! Maybe the next time you catch her reading the book, you can go up to her and say, "Wow, I read that too. It's a great book. What part are you at right now?"
