I'm not sure you should bore girls on your book's theme. Just talk about it if they show genuine interest.
As for building up your social skills, the best way is to meet girls in situations that motivate you. For instance, if you like a certain style of music, be with girls that share your interests, that will give you lots to talk about. Same for shared hobbies, etc. Find ways to turn your interests into group activities involving girls. In that way you will always have a good reason to talk to them.
