I'm screwed. (7)

I got randomly put in an off-stream coop program at my univeristy (I'll be starting in the fall). This means that while the vast majority of the school will be having a full year of school with the summer off, I'll be stuck in the opposite cycle of working in the winter and studying in the summer.

Basically, I'll be cut off from 99% of the campus. The only people around me will be the other poor freshman Engineering saps who lost the wheel-of-fortune coop game for the next 5 years. I can pretty much forget about girls if I stick with this (woohoo permavirgin!. Honestly, I don't know how the University can expect students in the most difficult program to deal with social isolation for 5 bloody years.

My other university offers have expired a month ago, so there's not really any going back now. I feel like I got screwed despite my hard work in high school and stellar academics so far. What the hell is the point of all this crap if I'm just gonna fail at life and never get laid anyway? Goddamn I'm depressed.

Guess I'm just venting on an anonymous site, waiting for my life to get wasted.

Jeez, at least you're doing something and I'm not. I rather trade in with yours if you don't want it. Look, if you're so damn worried about not getting laid then you're just hopeless to yourself and to one another. Worrying about such a thing is pointless and what is important is education right? Or the things you do in your life is what matters than just worrying about a stupid thing just because you're a virgin...

I think you are overestimating how bad it will be, there are similar programs here and it seems as though the people involved get really tight, like a real little family. Is it only engineering students? are you sure there are no other programs running alongside? and it's not like there will be no girls. just become mates with the few girls there are, I can guarantee you they have at least one female friend who has one female friend and so on.

If it becomes really tough for you, transfer to another university next year.

just a little advice: Your negativity is gonna cock block you a bunch more than being in an alternate stream ever would.

like other commenters. Whereas I understand your frustration, it's also true that you will find work arounds to it.

But hey, you are right, this is the perfect place to vent, so by all means, suit yourself

OP here, thank you everyone for replying.

I did some more research about my stream...I'm now convinced it sucks and I know I need to try everything to get out of it. Apparently the University aren't very receptive to such requests but I'll try anyway.

It's rubbish there aren't the same amount of people in each stream. I got put in a schedule called the "off-stream" by students for a reason - I'll be studying while everyone else will be off working!

In the event that I can't change my situation, I'll have to consider transferring out the next year and somehow getting myself put with all the freshman again. Having to start at a new Uni from second year would probably be just as bad as staying at the old place.

There are benefits to offstreams, smaller classes meaning more teacher-student time. It's quite possible you were judged, based on your high-school results and teachers recommendations as needing more help than other students. Even if you say you had stellar academics, you probably don't measure up compared to a lot of the other students.

Putting you down, saying you don't compare to the rest.
